Could a Xbox 360 refresh be on the way? That's the easy assumption to make from the news that Microsoft is set to give away versions of the console with new PC purchases.

From May 22nd to September 3rd, Microsoft will offer those who purchase $699+ Windows 7 computers free 4GB Xbox 360s. Valued at $199, the consoles will only go to students with a valid .edu email address or student ID card.

The move is interesting one for Microsoft, which has certainly been hit by the news that PC sales have been flagging as of late. With the offer Microsoft is able to leverage the momentum behind the increasingly successful Xbox 360 division and use it to boost sales elsewhere. It's a win-win.

But if you are wondering whether students catch onto the deal, I offer one question: Have you heard of Halo?

    That's actually a pretty sweet deal, especially given that new students are probably going to get a new PC anyways. I've got like 10 days before graduation, so maybe I'll go for this deal, even though I already own an Xbox360. A second for LAN purposes is nice, and I've been meaning to get a new desktop for a while. Sure, I was planning to build it, but hey, incentive.
