Western Digital has added the My Book Studio LX to its massive external hard drive collection, with two potential storage capacity options and packaged in a shiny aluminum casing that is cool both in temperature and style.

Speed is a priority for the My Book Studio LX, with a FireWire 800 interface that boasts a maximum 800Mb/s transfer rate. But to keep things flexible, there is a USB 2.0 connectivity option with a max 480Mb/s transfer rate. Security is another key point, with 256-bit hardware-based encryption and password protection to keep the beautiful storage accessory and its contents safe should it fall into the wrong hands.

Finally, for the green-minded, the silver portable hard drive is packaged and shipped in recycled materials and the HDD itself uses 30% less power than previous models.

Intended exclusively for Mac OS X (Tiger, Leopard and Snow Leopard) systems, the My Book Studio LX is also ready for plug-and-play action with Apple’s signature Time Machine application.

The new My Book Studio LX drives are available now for $199.99 and $269.99 for the 1TB and 2TB models, respectively. Both come with a 3-year limited warranty.
