Following in the tracks of Amtrak, New Jersey Transit is looking for a private company to install Wi-Fi on its trains and in stations.

It’s not clear when the project would be finished (given that it hasn’t even started yet). Other Tri-State transit authorities also working on installing Wi-Fi within their networks include the Metro North, Long Island Railroad and even the New York City subway.

Another factor yet to be determined is whether or not riders will have to pay to access the Wi-Fi service. Maybe fares will just be increased. Depending on the length of the commute, however, it might be worth it. Would you be willing to pay for Wi-Fi on a commuter train?

But one big change that NJ Transit is hoping will come with is “quieter cars.” Hear, hear!
