YouTube has opened the virtual doors to its first-ever travel channel in partnership with Norwegian Cruise Line.
One of the central features available on YouTube Vacationer is the “Freestyle” experience (lifted from one of the mantras of the cruise liner), which allows users to create an ideal vacation video from a large cluser of clips from vacation spots around the world. Users who sit through all six rounds of the process can watch the 60-90 second video and share it with friends, but overall it is a bit lackluster.
What is really worthy of a visit is the video content from some heavy-hitters in the travel industry, such as Lonely Planet, National Geographic and Travel Channel. You can check out clips from how to treat a sunburn to a Southern’s guide to New England to learning about belly dancers in Cairo.
Now this is where you can waste plenty of time and maybe even learn something cultural while you’re at it.
