I'm in San Diego for the O'Reilly ETech conference. The crowd is big--looks to be double last year's edition. This conference is an outgrowth of the famous P2P Conference back in the Bubble, and the numbers appear to reflect the new bubble we're moving through again. Not to say that I use that term perjoratively, but more as a quick way of measuring authority flow. As conferences in this series go, the sessions and hallway meet-ups seem mature, reasonably-well financed, with surprisingly detailed (and personalized) elevator pitches.

In no particular order, I'm paying attention to::

Attention
Much more awareness, super-bright people like Seth Goldstein want to drill down. Several startups focused around the remixing and reprioritization gains from an attention pool.

Flikr envy
Is Stewart Butterfiled the next Mark Fletcher? Doesn't matter, the photo metadata farm grows on. A subset of the tagging wave that threatens to finally put "Is blogging journalism" out to pasture. I pray it will.

Firefox
Interestingly, Brendan Eich mentions the Kontiki grid network protocol as a key component extension. Does he know something? Do I?

More later.

  • Sorry I'm not there....

Would be great to hear what people think about the combination of advanced file delivery protocols (BitTorrent, Kontiki Grid) and RSS. Have you gotten to that part of the discussion yet ?
