Garett Rogers reported Tuesday on the launch of the Google Apps Marketplace. Over on ZDNet Education, I had mused about the educational implications of the upcoming "App Store" for Google Apps, given our heavy use of the Apps for Education product.

Well now it's here and I have to admit that I'm excited. In a few quick searches, I've already found applications that would play well in the educational setting and in my own business ventures (where I also use Google Apps Standard Edition with my 6geeks.net domain). A few of my favorite PR types have already reached out with some interesting Apps suggestions as well.

So I'm going to start featuring some of the Apps available in the marketplace and reviewing their functionality over the next week or so in this blog. Those Apps that are particularly useful in education, I'll post over on ZDNet Edu with links from Googling Google.

I already have SocialWok, Expensify, and Manymoon either installed or on tap for review. If you're an Apps user and have something you'd like to see reviewed, talk back below. If you've built an app or represent a company that is rolling out a product in the Marketplace, catch up to me on Twitter. Keep in mind that ZDNet doesn't give us expense accounts, so the free Apps are going to get reviewed first; paid Apps are going to need a demo that I can get running in either my Edu Apps or Standard Apps domains.

As I post the reviews, they'll all have Apps Roulette in the title, so they'll be easily identified. While I may not review every App that gets submitted to me, I'll be keeping my eyes peeled for the most interesting and broadly appealing. I've always been a big fan of Google Apps, but the addition of third-party functionality could really take this to a new level. I guess we'll find out, won't we?

  • Sweet! (no pun intended)

And added to the project that I'm now managing in another free App,

  • google contacts mail merge

I've been looking for an app that can synchronize google contacts with the openoffice database. I would like to mail merge the information into writer documents. Well, this could also be relevant for ms office users. Can you mail merge using google docs? I don't think it's possible.
