Google Chrome gets themes

If you're using the beta or dev channel for Google Chrome, you are now able to install themes from Google's theme directory. To install a theme, you simply have to click the button -- it couldn't get any easier.

There are 29 themes currently available in Google's directory, and they are all actually pretty good. I assume Google will allow third party developers or designers to create their own themes for Chrome eventually.

My favorite theme right now is "Glow" -- what's yours?

  • Mine is the Default

I think Default looks better than other themes,
but Gloss Blue gives it a very tough Competition.
Another thing that one would observe is that the
Gloss Blue theme looks pretty much like the
    preview of Firefox 4.0.
I think that firefox will loose its market share
    pretty fast.

  • Brushed

I installed the Chrome Alpha for Ubuntu and was very pleasantly surprised to see that I could use these themes, as well. I'm currently using Brushed. The only downfall to the Alpha version is there's no way to switch between one theme or the next (other than Default or GTK, the 2 built into the .deb package) without coming back to this website and downloading another.

    • Is that Chromium? The Pre-Alpha one that has been around for a while?

Or our you running under Wine?

    • Themes work Chrome Alpha for Ubuntu

I was pleasantly surprised too that the themes
work on Chrome Alpha for Ubuntu.
These themes really make the browser so much
cooler. My like 'stitch' a lot.

I have the same problem while switching themes and
have to download themes every time I change it.

  • who cares

Chrome developers should be focusing on extensions rather than useless looks. Until I can block ads, I won't be using Chrome even if it is the fastest browser on Earth.

    • The main thing I want

Is the ability to open a file without having to download it to my Downloads folder. I love Google Chrome, but until it has that feature then I won't use it.
