That certainly makes Google SLOWER rather than faster. I've found a way to disable this page behavior.
In its ongoing quest to make the Internet all that much faster, Google is once again turning to the techies - this time to give a test run to the latest addition to its Page Speed family, called Page Speed Service. The service, which makes web pages load faster, has produced speed improvements of 25-60 percent on some sites, the company said.
In a blog post released this morning, the company explains:
Page Speed Service fetches content from your servers, rewrites your pages by applying web performance best practices, and serves them to end users via Google’s servers across the globe. Your users will continue to access your site just as they did before, only with faster load times. Now you don’t have to worry about concatenating CSS, compressing images, caching, gzipping resources or other web performance best practices.
Google’s work to improve the page-loading times has been ongoing. Two years ago, the company released a Page Speed browser extension and earlier this year, the Page Speed Online API, which provided developers with specific suggestions for increasing the load times of their pages. Last year, the company released an Apache module to automatically rewrite web pages.
The company said the new Page Speed Service is being offered to a limited set of webmasters free of charge. Details on pricing will be available at a later date, the company said.
