Google just added a new entry into their robots.txt file -- "Disallow: /movies?".  Going to the directory it references, you will find a no-nonsense "movie" search for your area.

I can see myself using this page very often -- even though I could just google or ask about "movies".  For people like myself, this separate URL will be more useful than doing a search.

  • Improved Movie Search?

Google has had for a long time the ability to search for move:zip to get a listing of movies showing in your area. There is even a widget for Google Personalized Home Page.

    Example: http://www.google.com/movies?q=movie:37849&btnG=Search&hs=G7h&hl=en&lr=&client=opera&rls=en

Maybe Google is setting out to improve Google Movie Search by allowing users to star their favorite theater(s)... or Google could be set to do something much, much bigger. Perhaps Fandango should be scared.
