New Gmail features on the way

gmailtalklogo.gifThere are at least two new features that are making their way to Gmail accounts near you.  The source code for Gmail confirms both of these features, but for most people the variable enabling them is set to "false".

The first feature is one that lets users delete all their spam with a single click.  Previously, to delete all your spam, you had to "select all", "delete", "select all", "delete", etc. until you had gone through all the pages of your spam.  Now there will be a "Delete all spam" link that should significantly cut down on the time it would normally take.

The second one that was just discovered today is the ability to create filters and apply them to existing messages.  For most people, when you create a filter it only acts on new messages that come in, but leaves old ones untouched.  This feature will help current users keep their mail organized, and give new users some time to ease into their account without worrying about creating filters right away.  Google Operating System has a list of things you can do with this new feature.

Does this means ... ?

Does this means we could transfer emails from an old Gmail account to a new one simply by applying a forward filter to old messages? That would be great if it is possible! Also, rumour has it that there is a delete all trash function too but sadly, none of these features appear in my Gmail yet.

I feel sorry for you...

I only have 1 or 2 spams every few days, guess that's the price for being 'in the public eye'.

Any idea when we will be able to select more than one person from the address book at a time (for a single msg), or when they are going to organize Reader into folders (a'la BlogLines) vs forcing me to read what they think I want to read next? TIA.

I got this - and delete trash too
joesiegler 11th Jul 2006
I noticed last night after reading this entry that I not only had "delete all spam", but I also had "delete all trash", too.

It's a godsend. I get insane amounts of spam - in 2005, about half a million total.

But I'm the public online rep for a game company, so I get spammed out the ying-yang. happy

I Like the new features now.....
tagginannie 14th Jul 2006
Just got them I and they a real time saver. But what would really save me some time is if they add folders. I'm in five Yahoo groups witch are all high volume, being able to sort my mail in to folders would be great. The labels are useless and they suck

I totally agree...

folders would be great and the labels do nothing as is. i assumed that selecting a Label would display those msgs only, no such luck, so they are useless, and I hate waiting on the redisplay of anything GMail related, too slow!
