What makes a drug raid really fun? Wii Bowling!

By | September 23, 2009, 11:34am PDT

Summary: For members of the Polk County (Tampa Bay) Drug Task Force finding the drugs wasn’t nearly so exciting as finding Wii Bowling in the suspect’s home.

So you’re a drug enforcement cop on a raid. It’s a high-stress, dangerous job. When you score the goods, it’s adrenalin-pumping experience. But for members of the Polk County (Tampa Bay) Drug Task Force finding the drugs wasn’t nearly so exciting as finding Wii Bowling in the suspect’s home. They bowled strikes. They jumped for joy like little kids. And the whole thing was captured on hidden video the cops apparently forgot about.

Tampa Bay Channel 8 has the story and the video.

Cnet’s Chris Matyszczyk describes the action:

One male officer is so consumed with glii after he knocks down some virtual pins that he looks like Kevin James celebrating the fact that he’s met a girl who finds him attractive. It could not be described as either rhythmic or aesthetically appealing. One lady drugbuster is cataloging evidence, but is overcome by her need to Wii several times.

The defense attorney says the high-energy action invalidated the terms of the search warrant. The police chief disputes that, saying the search was executed properly from a “legal sense” but concedes:

We didn’t conduct ourselves as we should have by playing the Wii Bowling game.

Ok they found the wii in the course of duty. The main job was completed, bad guys busted, drugs off the street so big deal about the wii. Our society is so screwed up over childish and silly thoughts. If it wasn't on tape who would have given a thought about what they did. We forget the millions of dollars taken from the sale of the drugs, the perps who sell them and then a defense attorney trying to cry foul.

Hey you can't blame them, law enforcement must get pretty monotonous sometimes, it's nice to unwind and play some Wii every now and then. I think a story like this only helps the Wii's image instead of hurting it, it shows that it's fun! Nintendo does all kinds of promotions to keep their brand name out there, like this promotion I found for a FREE WII! Check out the link and follow the instructions and spread the word!
