One of the companies in the business of recycling and refurbishing outdated or cast-out information technologies — aka electronic waster or e-waste — is engaging in some pretty serious expansion efforts.
That company, CloudBlue Technologies, is extending its logistics centers in Dallas and San Francisco to become full-service processing facilities. In addition, it has added a new processing operation in Carolina, Puerto Rico. Elsewhere, CloudBlue has doubled the capacity of its site in Chicago, and it has opened a new headquarters in Norcross, Ga. Over the past year, the company has increased its employee count by 25 percent.
These are not consumer electronics collection efforts. CloudBlue, which is an e-Stewards certified facility (meaning it meets certain business practices that other electronics recycling operations don’t necessarily follow) is squarely focused on corporate efforts. The company manages its business through 41 different company-owned and partner-run facilities around the world.
in the press release detailing the expansion efforts, CloudBlue Executive Vice President of Business Development Mark Vander Kooy said:
“Elevated corporate awareness of environmental regulations, increased concern around data security issues and rapidly growing volumes of new IT equipment and consumer electronics are all contributors to our growth.”
Earlier this month, the U.S. Environmental Protection Agency said it would put $2.5 million into the e-waste problem in the form of a grant to the United Nations University. The Consumer Electronics Association is also rallying around the issue, vowing to triple the rate of e-waste collected by 2016.
