GE makes investment in data center monitoring company SynapSense

Looks like data center energy intelligence company SynapSense is feeling some love from GE. The company is getting $5 million from GE Energy Financial Services, along with Emerald Technology Ventures, Sequoia Capital, Robert Bosch Venture Capital, American River Ventures, Nth Power and DFJ Frontier.

The money is earmarked for research and development AND market expansion activities related to the SynapSense Data Center Monitoring, Adaptive Control and Energy Management technology. GE actually has been using the SynapSense technology in its own data centers (including GE Corporate and NBC Universal) since 2008. The deal will see the SynapSense products integrated with the GE Intelligent Platform Proficy Software and Control product. It works by automatically adjusting the data center cooling load to the IT load.

In a past corporate life, Heather was editor of Computer Reseller News, where she was a featured speaker about everything from software as a service to IT security to mobile computing.

Heather started her journalism life as a business writer with United Press International in New York. She holds a B.A. in English literature from McGill University in Montreal, Quebec, and has a thing for Lewis Carroll.
