In the world of electronic waste, apparently all hardware is not equal. I read with interest that a company called Shields Environmental is the first organization to earn the e-Stewards Certification specifically for its ability to refurbish or recycle telecommunications equipment.
e-Stewards is a designation conferred on e-waste processing organizations that have agreed to comply with certain tenets associated with handling hazardous electronics materials responsibly from a social and environmental standpoint. Shields specifically works with telecos and organizations with substantial network equipment assets, helping them recover value from old equipment while ensuring that the disposal process confirms with security and waste management practices espoused by the Basel Action Network.
