So, innovations related to green printing technologies tend to rise to the top of that pile.
Thus, this update on the green portion of the massive printing, imaging and digital content technology barrage out of Hewlett-Packard to start the week. I won't list everything they've announced or shipped, because you can look at the press release for that. But here are the salient developments related to green printing innovation. I discussed these products last week with Shelley Zimmer, environmental initiatives manager for HP Inkjet & Web solutions. "We hear customers say they want to purchase a printer that delivers all of their needs and happens to be green at the same time," Zimmer says. Now their choices include:
HP Envy 100 e-All-in-One: What makes this slim-line thermal inkjet printer different is that it is completely free of PVC (polyvinyl chloride). It has a 3.45-inch touchscreen control display and a retractable paper tray. The printer's footprint is 16.8 inches wide by 13.2 inches deep x 4 inches high and it weighs about 17 pounds. It is supposed to ship in October at a suggested price of $249.
The pitch for the new Energy Star qualified HP OfficeJet Pro 8500 e-All-in-One series (left) for small businesses is that it uses up to 50 percent less energy than color laser printers (at least those priced at less than $600) at a starting price point of $299. The printer series supports double-sided printing as well which (if you do the simple math) means you could cut your paper usage by up to half.
The HP LaserJet Pro CP1025nw Color Printer, due in November, is plugged as the world's smallest color laser printer as well as one of the most energy efficient ones. It features HP's Instant On Technology, which helps conserves power consumption. The dimensions are 15.7 inches wide x 15.7 inches deep by 8.8 inches tall with a weight of 29.4 pounds. It is priced starting at $229.
So, that's the printers themselves. One additional sidenote worth mentioning, according to Zimmer, is the fact that HP has updated its printer product packaging to eliminate the plastic bags that are usually used to wrap the products. Instead you'll find a reusable one that can be used later to tote other stuff around if you are inclined.
