The Met Office (which is English English for their Meterological service) has developed a new computer model for predicting short-term effects of global warming. Their findings: the really hot times won't begin until after 2009. In London they loath hot days and one newspaper there trumpets the Met's prediction that every year starting with 2010 could be hotter than the current world record-holder, blistering old 1998. The Met set odds of record-breaking heat at 50% for year starting in 2010.

Not only is the predicted heat a source of discomfort, it's a source of danger for London. The city's currently protected by the Thames Tidal Barrier. But you don't have to search far to find predictions the barrier will not withstand the onslaught of rising temps, rising seas and rising tide levels.

If you wanna check out the history of one the world's largest urban flood control projects, click here. The barrier was completed in 1984, and London still stands. I'm sure there's some segue here to Katrina and the former city of New Orleans, but maybe I'll save that for a later tidal wave of news.

• Global Warming

I believe that somehow everyone is responsible for the occurrence of such phenomenon. As car owners, we have also our own responsibilities with our cars, since it is also one of the contributors to the development of global warming. The toxic products like carbon monoxide that comes from our Oldsmobile catalytic converter can add to these occurrence. So, it is but wise to use environment friendly gasolines and as well as car products for us to keep peace with mother nature...

• Your American <-> English Translator is incorrect

'The Met' actually refers to The Metropolitan Police Service, which is the police force responsible for everything in London outside of the square mile (inside the mile is the responsibility of the City of London Police Force).

'The Met Office' is the correct abbreviation for the Meteorological Office.

• So, the old model

wasn't accurate, but the new model is.

Still looking forward to the day when real science returns.

• Let me know when you understand how science works.

It's called 'new data has become available'. As usual, this new data is that effects from global warming expected to happen some five years in the future are happening now so the timetable is moved forward, again.

• Still not getting it are you?

Global warming is real, and if you can see that then you fall into one of the following categories:

1. Your fathers name was Jethro Bosephus
2. You failed basic science
3. You work for a major auto company
4. You work for a major oil company
5. You are just plain ol' dumb
6. You are items 1, 2, 4 and 5
