When did terrorism become a green tech issue? Just now...

By | January 15, 2008, 12:21pm PST

Seems there are more than just environmental issues with building new nuclear plants. There are questions about the ability to protect them from terrorist attacks. For the record, there’s been no known terrorist incident at any nuclear plant anywhere in the world…so far. Events at Three Mile Island and Chernobyl, for example, seemed to have come about in the normal course of human events. But in an era, such as this one, when fear is political capital for all sides of an issue, it is fear of terrorism that may be a major hurdle for the nuclear industry.

It’s the Nuclear Regulatory Commission that is in the middle of this controversy. How do you protect nuclear plants? From airplane attacks…

Is anybody asking these questions about oil refineries? Chemical plants? Breweries? Imagine an entire neighborhood inundated with bad beer meant for canning….

Yet there are those pundits who see a coming revival of nuclear in America. Hell, says one commentator, now even the liberals are for nuc plants.

Any fear will do.

The anti-nuke crowd simply uses fill in the blank fear.
Radiation is the most toxic substance known to man fear is
losing its edge (mostly because we've been programmed to
think the plant fertilizer CO2 is the most dangerous
substance on the planet these days). So, there needs to be a
new entry on the fill in the blank for today's fear.

We have a shortage of power and Coal produces too much crap.

Nuclear energy is still cheaper and cleaner overall.
