I'm amazed how often the question 'What's your favorite iPhone/iPad app?' comes up. Well, for all those who are interested, here's my current favorite iOS app ... and it's not Angry Birds!

No, it's not Angry Birds (don't get me wrong, I'm not dissing Angry Birds, it's an awesome game), in fact my favorite app isn't a game. It's also not a Twitter client (I seem to have about half a dozen installed though always seem to end up using Osfoora).

And my favorite app isn't Pocket Informant/Pocket Informant HD either. Again, an awesome app, and one that I use a lot, but it's not my favorite.

My favorite app is ... <drum roll please> ...

WolframAlpha.

ot a search engine, but a 'computational knowledge engine.'

I love Wolfram Alpha because I can throw all kinds of weird stuff its way and it'll usually throw the answer right back at me. Pi to a 1,000 digits? Not a problem! Mass of the moon? Easy! Blood alcohol content 4 hours after three drinks? Piece of cake!

I know, I know, I can get all that by going to the WolframAlpha website in a browser and save myself $1.99, but I just like having the app at hand. It's especially cool on the iPad thanks to the larger screen.

Without a doubt, my favorite app. Two bucks well spent!

I forever praise Wolfram Alpha for getting me through Differential Equations. Lord knows my professor wasn't doing much.

I was in a meeting today, and a client needed the mass of the Moon. To little, too late.

Personally, never really got why people like it. There's a lot of other games out there with a lot more depth to them.

  • Good Choice

I would agree that it is in my top five apps. It is not my most used app but it is definitely one of my top favorites.

I was actually about ready to buy it for my Droid before Amazon gave it away as their free app of the day a month or so ago. It's a very good app. Nice choice, Adrian!

    ...Puffin.
An ordinary tabbed browser with a few drawbacks but a HUGE advantage: it plays Flash with sound (full screen as well)!!! I'm serious - it really does. It's not fast enough to play flash games but it's just fine for the occasional video. And I think that's what iPad/Phone/Pod users really need to be able to do when away from their main PC. For me it means that I can travel with just an iPad - no need for a laptop anymore.
I haven't played around with RIM's tablet yet so I don't know how it handles Flash. But I've played around with a couple of Android phones and tablets and the Flash experience on them is comparable to that of Puffin on the iPad.
The app let's you turn the Flash plugin on and off and guess what: mine is almost always off! It seems I didn't miss that much before having a Flash capable browser. Mostly adds...
