What’s the ideal size for a tablet computer?

See, the reason I ask is that I’m not sure that OEMs really know. Apple went for 9.7-inch for the iPad, HP went for 8.9 for the Slate, Samsung and RIM went even smaller and the Galaxy Tab and PlayBook are both 7-inch. I’m just naming a few here, and expect an avalanche of new tablets to appear over the next year or so.

So what is the “sweet spot size.”

My take on this is that there isn’t that one sweet spot. Like notebooks and netbooks, there is no one ideal size. But, that doesn’t stop OEMs using screen size as a way to differentiate their product from the competition. Yes, it’s come down to that …

With a really good touch screen, pinch zoom, and glasses if you need them, 7" is the perfect size. (Playbook!)
