Apple iPhone 4 press conference - Live coverage

By | July 15, 2010, 12:08pm PDT

Yesterday Apple announced that it was going to hold a press conference on Friday. The subject - The iPhone 4.

But what does Apple want to discuss? It’s likely to be related to the whole “Antennagate” affair, but beyond that it’s a mystery to us all. Will Apple announce a recall? Will the company give everyone a free case? Or will the company once again attempt to brush off the issue as only affecting a small number of users choosing to hold their handsets in an awkward way?

  • I imagine Mr Jobs will deny any problems exist as
he has the best engineers in the world working for him, and so they are infallible.

Though as I pointed out to another gentleman here, were an old friend of mine here at the moment, he would most likely be "laughing at the superior intellect"

That press conference is not what you think it will be. Saw that video about Princess Leyla ? Tomorrow some of those troopers will storm the stage and take away Steve Jobs to the back of the room. Waiting there is Darth Vader. He'll have a quick judgement on Mr Jobs. It'll be something like "put them in the Iron Maiden".

  • This does not take rocket science to figure out
Steve Jobs will stand up and say that the iPhone4 is their best selling phone. Returns are almost non-existent (as is the antenna problem), but that Apple wants to make their customers happy, and that the restocking fee has been dropped. I suspect he'll also call on the press to be a bit more responsible in their reporting of events.

I also fully expect him to walk around with an iPhone4 in the 'death grip' while getting perfectly good reception.

After the press conference, I then predict the blog author to talk about the great Apple Coverup and Denial and how they are screwing their customers, but how the fanboys will continue to drink the kool-aid anyway. He will then sign off, utterly convinced of his moral superiority and objectivity by engaging in a witchhunt.

It didn't work for him the last time. Remember the unveiling and how he wasn't able to access the wi-fi? Yeah, he was "holding it wrong".

  • I LOVE that the iPhone is Apple's Vista!!
    @frgough
What makes this whole scenario even better is that Apple doesn't deserve the bad press that it is getting it. If Apple actually deserved this bad press, it wouldn't quite mirror what MS has been dealing with for years. I'm glad that Apple doesn't deserve this bad press because it makes it even more maddening for you Apple zealots to deal with. happy

(That was weird, I click to Reply, the Reply button disappears, every post shows flagged. I refreshed, there are no posts. I refresh again and, well here we are.)

There are idiots among those who argue pro-Apple in these fora. From my observations, the smart pro-Apple people have all said "You're holding it wrong." was a tone-deaf and stupid thing to say. Apple deserves its abuse for that. "The issue/problems exists, we designed it the way we did for a reason, the problem doesn't affect everyone, other phones also show the phenomenon, we'll look into it, if you are unsatisfied, please return the phone." doesn't seem unreasonable in Day 22 of the phone and Day 19 of the issue. Others disagree and so we have bad press and defenses. Life goes on.

Now, I apologize, there are a few people who always appear and write a lot of stuff in condemnation or ridicule of the things I use and sometime the users (which would be me) and you do blur together to me.

I say that, because it might not be you, but haven't we heard over and over again that Vista was fine, it just was brutalized by third party driver writers, the tech press, and Apple commercials?

So? Vista bad, tech press right, or Vista good, tech press wrong? Because, it will make a difference for those who persist with an iPhone 4 == Vista meme.

I was depressed to see that all 3 links in your RSS feed are Apple-related. Let's be serious here for a minute-- no matter how obsessed you are with Apple, I don't think anyone that takes the time to learn and know about technology cares about what Apple does. No offense to Apple the company or Apple product users, but they market to the uninformed, and, by definition, we are trying to be informed. I'd like to know what else is going on in the world of tech, besides just Apple BS.

It's amazing how badly iPhone 4 sucks. It's also amazing how Apple Fanboys will defend it until the end of time. I will freely note first off that I am not a fanboy by any stretch, however I do have the 3GS, which I love. I did buy the iPhone 4, and it was so terrible that I returned it and went back to my current 3GS. It was just that bad. It's hilarious to me what Apple fanboys are saying in forums and blogs all across the web, defending this thing like it's some sacred gem, pretending all its issues don't even exist. Ridiculous. Check out the video I made on YouTube about "An Apple Fanboy's take on Life...". It's at http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=KPcQ-cYg8iA
