By | September 27, 2011, 8:10am PDT

Summary: We have a go for the iPhone 5 launch event.

Apple has just started sending out press invitations to the iPhone 5 launch event.

Here are the details:

  • Date: October 4
  • Time: 10:00PT
  • Location: Apple’s Campus at Cupertino, California

So, you ready for your iPhone 4 to go from ‘the best thing ever!’ to ‘it sucks, I need the new one!’ in record time?

So, time to get those last minute guesses in as to what the iPhone 5 will have? I’m guessing that it will have a screen and allow you to talk to people far away.

With its billion apps, where is a talking turn by turn navigation that android has had for two years. And voice queries to navigate would be nice.

The phone will already be behind competition again. Sadly, it will probably win the Camera battle again and lose everywhere else.

Sure it will likely be a world phone (been there, done that) to save money and it will have a larger screen (also ran) but really, what is going to be the killer new feature of this phone?

All rumors point to this being a larger dual core iPhone 4 or a smaller iPad 2 with a phone built in... Crud, their screen is supposed to stay at 960x640 even though it got .5" larger (this isn't a big deal anyway because anything about 240 ppi has a diminishing return on anything under 10" in size) and the resolution is so Random!
@Peter Perry I know you love your Android device so just enjoy it. Competition is good for the industry!

@murving Here's the sad thing, I think Samsung's phones are cheap crap personally... The build quality isn't good at all!

Also, we know people will buy it because it is Apple and their phones usually have very good build quality but can you honestly tell me you a real reason for somebody to run out and upgrade their iPhone 4 that they just got last February?
@Peter Perry "lose" on paper, what apple is good at is to utilize those features to the max. Android doesn't. Look at Android's CPU specs, looks good, but performance looks like a iPhone 2g. This is just ONE example!

@m3kw9 You're out of your mind! My Incredible was every bit as quick as the iPhone 4 when the iPhone 4 was first launched.

My Droid X2 is very quick and comparing the A5 with the Tegra 2 showed a 15% advantage for Apple but that can be explained away by resolution (the Android devices were running 1280x1024) and the fact that iOS is doing less (features in Android far out number iOS).

As for the Galaxy S II, that wasn't on paper, the thing has been thoroughly tested and put through the ringer, it is simply put the best performing smart phone on the market.
Maybe in a week the incessant rumors will finally end? Maybe we can all get an idea of where Apple is going, with the next iPhone. I wonder who will copy it this time?
Awesome! Looking forward for my personal assistant! The message says it all. Let's "TALK" iPhone.
It gives a likeliness to the Assistant feature when they say Let's talk iPhone, which sounds like, "Let's talk, iPhone".

Sure, there should be hardware improvements, and there will be, perhaps the camera, and by all accounts, that A5 or better will be on board.

The big thing is the software. iOS 5 will have iCloud support meaning that all developers can get "device to device sync" without having to "rent a server". That means cheaper apps with more power it would seem to me.

Also, over the air sync will make it possible to not need a computer at all, to get your devices to work when you bring them home for the first time.

There are all kinds of things going on in iOS that are improvements. There are lots of things that Android has in software base that iOS doesn't have. That's what drives competition. But, it doesn't keep an iOS application form being any less capable than an Android app.

Also look at Airplay. Finally airplay can be used to "add a monitor" to you iPad2. That's going to be a big thing for "classroom" use!
iPhone 5 release date is September 7th 2011 and October 1st in Canada iPhone 5 release date
Will it, huh? Will it?
