Apple Q3 2010 financial results

By | July 20, 2010, 2:11pm PDT

Today Apple posts its Q3 2010 financial results … and it’s been another great quarter for the Cupertino giant.

Here’s the details:

  • Record revenue of $15.7 billion (compared to $9.73 billion for the year ago quarter)
  • Net quarterly profit of $3.25 billion or $3.51 per diluted share (compared to $1.83 billion for year ago quarter)
  • Gross margin was 39.1% (compared to 40.9% for year ago quarter)
  • International sales accounted for 52% of sales
  • 3.47 million Macs sold (33% up on year ago quarter)
  • 8.4 million iPhones sold (61% unit increase over year ago quarter)
  • 9.41 million iPods (8% unit decline on year ago quarter)
  • 3.27 million iPads sold

“It was a phenomenal quarter that exceeded our expectations all around, including the most successful product launch in Apple’s history with iPhone 4,” said Steve Jobs, Apple’s CEO. “iPad is off to a terrific start, more people are buying Macs than ever before, and we have amazing new products still to come this year.”

“We’re really pleased to have generated over $4 billion of cash during the quarter,” said Peter Oppenheimer, Apple’s CFO.

Just got back from a short trip and stopped at the mall in Oklahoma City that has an Apple Store. Tuesday, 2:30pm and the place was packed with 40+ customers. No other store had anywhere near the concentration of customers.

Apple is simply bowing out the market and there is more to come, even if it is as bland as a white iPhone4.

but they'll never be able to copy Apple's success.

@iPad-awan

What makes you say that? Google's corporate history shows far fewer blunders than Apple's does. What is it that has you so very certain that you can see the next few decades ahead like that?

Ah the government blog

Typical view of those in this sector: produce nothing, fund themselves through the thief of others.

All that was missing was a call for their pres to fund a new IT company to deliver their monopoly product (after legislating to remove competition).

Sadly it's a view that's gaining some traction these days.

Truly impressive numbers!

Next quarter's numbers will be extremely interesting. If Apple continues this level of performance into the next 90 days, the back-to-school quarter could be astounding, and should pretty much end the antennagate discussions.

Maybe they're all busy defragging and scanning for malware, for the second time this week.

We're sorry, but the commenters you're flaming are busy conducting their real lives. Please check the sarcasm at the door and try again.

Oh, you were serious. I'm sorry, I thought it was pretty funny that you were expecting us to be impressed by the numbers. Well I find it pathetic when people make money off the incompetence of others. I think Apple makes a great gadget company... iPod, iPad, iPhone, sure, why not... great accessory devices and consumer electronics.

Meanwhile 90% of the world still runs Windows, and quite happily I might add.
