Best Buy a bad bet for iPhone 4 on launch day

By | June 21, 2010, 8:40am PDT

Summary: If you’re planning to head out to your nearest Best Buy to pick up a new shiny iPhone 4 this week, you might has well not bother.

If you’re planning to head out to your nearest Best Buy to pick up a new shiny iPhone 4 this week, you might has well not bother.

iClarified has Best Buy’s iPhone 4 launch plans, and it’s not promising for those looking to pick up a handset:

Since inventory availability is expected to be minimal, stores may open up a limited time pre-sale window as an option for customers on launch day who have not previously pre-purchased.
- Pre-sales may only occur up to 11:00 am local time
- Customers who pre-purchase on launch day will be added to the store’s pre-sale cue based on time of pre-sale and will get their pre-sale fulfilled in priority order
- Do not provide customers who pre-purchase on launch day timing on when a device may be available

I love the fact that customers can pre-purchase but they don’t get a date for their handset. That sucks.

If you didn’t pre-order, looks like you’re sunk.

This is only a problem for Mac Weenies who can't get their phones on Day One. They are subject to ridicule by the other Mac Weenies who managed to get their phones first.
Grown-ups will wait a week or two until the foam subsides and calmly get a phone when they want to.

So there!

N.B. I don't want an iPhone, iPad, or any other iThing that comes with an attachment to AT&T.
@DataFerret
I agree AT&T and Apple are the devil paired with a demon.

I had mine pre-ordered first thing at 10am last Tuesday. If not I guess it means I am waiting.
but I walked into my local BestBuy the day after and there on the shelves were iPads. All 3 capacities, ready for you to pick up, pay for and take home. A friend who works for BestBuy said they never were completely sold out.
@Scubajrr
Exactly because it is a media smoke and mirror. The supply far outweights the demand. However the media and Apple want you to believe that everyone is getting one and you better get yours or you are not cool... To have an ipieceof%hit.

@MLHACK yep, Apple is nothing more than a marketer. They make sub par products and use marketing to make people believe that they are the best things in the world and everyone has to have one.

that light headed must spend money feeling..... do it doooo it!

Rush, dont walk... get on your mopeds, get in your hybrids and dance your way to the local store! Steve jobs demands no less!
Nothing like the android fanboys weighing in on the Apple iPhone discussion. That's a lot like asking BP how much oil has spilled in the gulf.
