I don't normally post many deals on here but this one is a good one. If you're looking for a small, portable system then the Dell Mini 9 might be the system you are looking for. And until February 12th, you can pick one up for $249.

The $249 system is the Mini 9n, which comes equipped with an 1.6GHz Atom N270 CPU, 512MB of RAM and Ubuntu installed on a 4GB SSD. This price is a whopping $100 less than it was back in September, and there are no strings attached.

For an extra $50 you can get Windows XP installed on an 8GB SSD drive.

Hurry, the deal ends February 12th at 6am CT.

  • The prices need to stay this low and go lower.

At this price point my wife was a little more interested in getting one. Being priced only 100 short of a decent full sized laptop isn't going to cut it.

Actually netbooks should be the devices subsidized by cell carriers in exchange for 3G service. That may make more sense.

  • RE: Dell Mini 9 - $249 - Time limited offer

Office Depot had the Acer Aspire One with XP home, 1 gig of memory, the Atom processor and a 120 GB conventional drive for $289, and other configurations from other vendors were as low as $239 on Dealnews.

  • Still to high....

This really is worth about $80 or so, I would not pay $250 or more for something that is comprised of $10 worth of parts (dealer cost)...

as long as it comes with linux no thanks, no matter how much it costs. This sytem will be unusable to anyone as long as it has linux on it. The high maintenance, the constant recompiling of software, the minimal security by leaving the telnet port open, and the fact that linux can only play one sound at a time, this deal is pretty much worthless. You would spend $249 on nothing but frustration.

as long as it comes with Microsoft Windows no thanks, no matter how much it costs. This system will be unusable to anyone as long as it has Microsoft Windows on it. The high maintenance, the constant blue screening of software, the minimal security by leaving the telnet port open, and the fact that Microsoft Windows can only play one sound at a time, this deal is pretty much worthless. You would spend $249 on nothing but frustration with Microsoft Windows.

      • Yeah right!!!

      • But thats the difference

It doesn't come with Microsoft Windows, if it did people would snatch this deal up in a heartbeat. It comes with linux, people do not want to use linux. That is most likely the reason they are so cheap, no one wants them so they have to put the price down to get rid of this excess inventory.

    • What you're saying is True.

I had a ASUS A8N-SLI PREMIUM motherboard. I could only listen to one sound at a time. Either listen to music or surf the net. I thought I was the only one with the problem. Some websites doesn't work with Linux. Add the $50 for XP and save the hassle. Everything works on XP.

    • Warning, Troll alert. Loverock is in the area

Fanboys of any flavor are just plain ridiculous, as are your comments.

Nevertheless, I love my Acer Aspire One loaded with Win XP, 1GB memory, 120GB HD. It is quick and stable, and much better configured hardware wise than this Dell. I personally prefer XP on mine since it is my only laptop with XP. However, your comments are just troll food, as always.

  • Hmmm, you just need more storage.

It is $279 for 8 gig SSD One, and just over $308 if you want a 160 Gbyte One (both Linux). The 2 gigs free (Ubuntu uses about 1/2) means on 2 gig more more apps is just a little too small.

It is $284 for 8 gig version (that is more than enough for / and /home) but know you will want SD cards for your multimedia.

More to the point, anyone seen one, used one, know about them? Would like to check out the form factor and bought enough One's for people, should start buying other flavors. :D

Ooops, check that, the race to sub $200 is intense. $259 for One with Linux and 8 gig SSD.

I have priced the Dell's multiple times multiple ways, and with virtually all spec'ed the same, I have thought Dell might try to more competitive.

If anyone from Dell reading this, offer the 8 Gig version for $259, I'll buy one.

    • You better buy one then ...

If anyone from Dell reading this, offer the 8 Gig version for $259, I'll buy one.

If you choose the next XP model customized with Ubuntu you'll get 8GB for exactly $259:

So dude it looks like you're getting a Dell!!!

      • Already dead link. :-(

I think they must have caught the error of their way. Clicking customize with Ubuntu give this...
        [B]Thank you for choosing Dell.

I was going to buy one, you certainly caught me, and I already have a couple of people who would purchase my One from me. :D

I'll check again in the morning, and if I can, I'll buy it. Then I will configure it to within an inch of it's life and send it to Adrian for 30 day review. :D

        • That's strange ...

...it works for me, but anyhow just go to the original page linked with Adrian's post and choose the next model to the right from the $249 one. Click the "customize with Ubuntu" button.

That'll give you a $259.00 model which comes with 8GB of SSD with everything else exactly the same plus free 2 day business shipping. So it's a better deal than the $249.00 model just on the shipping charges alone.

          • Tried different browsers.

I followed your link, and was going to purchase, but the review showed only 512Meg. $25 more for 1 Gig. I am more than willing to buy with a spec match, but all said and done, it is, my original point, not quite as good a deal as the One.

I will keep trying, at some point they will be cheaper and would really like to get my hands on one.

          • One gig of memory ...

... will cost you $13.00 with free shipping:

            http://www.newegg.com/Product/Product.aspx?Item=N82E16820134546

You could splurge an extra $7.00 an get 2 GB instead:

            http://www.newegg.com/Product/Product.aspx?Item=N82E16820220281

Plus, unlike the Acer One, you don't have to take half the machine apart to install the memory module. Dell of course already comes with Ubuntu pre-configured instead of Linpus ... Lupus ... whatever pus that comes with the Acer.

So it's still cheaper for the Dell even with 2 GB of ram and free shipping on everything, even 2 day shipping on the computer itself. So why is Acer the better deal?

            Edit:
Well I found a better deal on the Acer One anyway:

            http://www.newegg.com/Product/Product.aspx?Item=N82E16834115508

$240.00 shipped to your door with a 16Gb SSD. So now it's time to buy. You just needed to look a little deeper when comparing prices.

          • I always am.

I am writing this on an Aspire One and I love this little machine. I have delivered 4 (two with tweaked Linpus) and 2 with Mandriva. I ordered 3 through Amazon, all came with free shipping, 2 at Best Buy.

It isn't that I am stalling on buying a netbook, and I am always scanning for better deals. I have another person who wants my netbook but is waiting until she gets her tax refund. :D I will keep scanning, it might be a Dell, it might be one of the HP MIE models (awaiting reviews) or it might be another Acer One.

She has told me she DOES NOT WANT pink, lol. Also, when KDE 4.2 is baked into mainstream Mandriva, I plan to find a place to host my custom image ala Ubuntu remix.
