Motorola is running the following full-page ad today, taking a swipe at Apple's iPhone:

At Motorola, we believe a customer shouldn’t have to dress up their phone for it to work properly. That’s why the DROID X comes with a dual antenna design. The kind that allows you to hold the phone any way you like to make crystal clear calls without a bulky phone jacket. For us it’s just one of those things that comes as a given when you’ve been making mobile phones for over 30 years.

At the end of June Motorola ran this ad, also taking a swipe at the iPhone:

“And most importantly, it comes with a double antenna design. The kind that allows you to hold the phone any way you like and use it just about anywhere to make crystal clear calls.”

Hey Apple, the nerdy kids are laughing at you again!!!

    AWESOME! Apple just took a jibe at it by posting a video online. Motorala brought out their shortcoming into the open!

      No Apple's Droid X video has been up - obviously Motorola is not really as afraid that as Apple is of this issue. Maybe because in the Apple video they are addressing the grip of death problem which afflicts all phones and not attenuation which is troubling Apple.

  • Poor Motorola

    that would be funny if it was true... millions of people using an iPhone fine without problem with no cover might prove the statement false...

    Apple is giving away free cases because they like to make people happy, and the media and other places like consumer reports kept saying they should... not because its actually needed.

    I guess they've gotten past the stage of ignoring Apple... they must be feeling the hurt. Truth doesn't matter in sales and advertising, just what you can make people believe. And like they stated there, they have been selling phones for over 30 years, they know how to convince people to buy anything.

      Hypocrite. They are doing the same thing that Apple did to Microsoft, but this time its against them. And all your doing is crying in your coffee.

      Your saying there were no skewing of facts by Apple in their Mac commercial. Wait, your saying its ok for Apple but not for others.

      No, it's still funny. Just like the I'm a Mac ads, they didn't have to be true to be funny.

      @doh123

      Millions of people use Windows Vista everyday without encountering any problems, myself included

      It is simply fallacious to argue that because a problem is not encountered by 100% of the people using a product that therefore it does not exist or is not significant

      In order to prove the iPhone 4 is faulty one does not need to prove that 100% of the phones have problems, but only that the problem is shared by a statistically significant portion of the users

    • The Truth Is

      @doh123
      You are correct.
      I use my iPhone 4 naked and have not had a problem so far.

      Re: DROID X

      As my friend Adam would say if you asked him what a Droid is: "It's the same thing as an iPhone, just not as good."

      • Your friend is brilliant!

        @robertmro

        I see why you took the time to commit to memory that wonderful quote:"It's the same thing as an iPhone, just not a s good." OMG! Shades of the algonquin Round Table!

        Has your friend written anything else that I might have heard of?

    • Partial truth

      @doh123 - Actually, its partially true and that's what advertising is really all about. Motorola is just taking advantage of an opportunity. To their credit, they also didn't mention Apple or iPhone by name.

      • Don't do unto apple what they have done unto others.

        @HooNoze

        The prevailing theme here of the Apple Fanbois. And per your comment about Motorola not using Apple or iPhone in the commercial. Can Apple fanbois say the same about their companies commercials and Microsoft???? No, they can't.

        What a bunch of cry babies.

        Whats the old saying? If you can't take it, don't dish it out. We now know that apple fanbois can't take it.

      • corr: Don't do unto apple what they have done unto others.

        I was wrong, my hatered of Apple and it's fanboys clouded my posting. Apple did not use Windows, or Microsoft in it's commericals. It was "hi, i'm a mack. And I'm a pc".

But, I do wish to distinguish myself from the hypocrit apple fanbois by correcting what I know is incorrect to my post.

But the point still stands though. Don't do unto apple what they have done unto others. Do not mock them in commericals, it is only legitimate for them to do that to others.

      'Apple is giving away free cases because they like to make people happy'

      ah... you really think that's how business works?

  • RE: DROID X takes swipe at iPhone - Hey Apple, the nerdy kids are laughing at you again!

    Apple just got b*tch-slapped! If only Apple didn't try to bring the rest of the industry down with them. Now look at the backlash. I'm LOLing over here.
    Loverock Davidson
    • Backlash?

      Care to point out the backlash? The only backlash is on troll-riddled blog comments. The general consumer isn't part of this nerdy fringe society. Every cell phone owner knows your signal strength varies for all kinds of weird reasons...it's a fact of life. What I can't figure out is why so many American techies hate this American tech company (Apple) so vigorously. We'll take them!

  • Funny, snarky advert

    Will cause iPhone sales to drop by 0.0001%
    Will cause Droid X sales to rise by 1%
    Will cause Windows phone sales to drop by 10%

    • RE: DROID X takes swipe at iPhone - Hey Apple, the nerdy kids are laughing at you again!

      @davebarnes

      So what? Do sales numbers prove that a product is good?

      Lots of crap sells well for no apparent reason, due solely to a popular fad

      Remember the pet rock....

      The iPhone is a fad, and like all fads, it's time in the spotlight will pass
      Doctor Demento
      • Fad? If you say so...

        @Doctor Demento

        Yeah ok. If comparing the iPhone to the pet rock makes you sleep better at night, then go on and keep thinking of the iPhone as just a fad.

        Things may settle over time as other phones flood the market with cheap freebies and a few decent higher end models. But I would hardly call the iPhone a fad.
        tk_77
    • Why is it alway sales with fanboys?

      @davebarnes

      Sales are not a measure of a quality product; Donnie Osmond has sold 80 million records.

      Case closed.
      trickytom2
      • That's one thing I've noticed about Apple fanbois...

        @trickytom2

Sales figures only matter if we're not talking about Windows licenses!
