Duke Nukem Forever ... Delayed?

By | March 24, 2011, 6:58am PDT

Summary: I’ve been talking about Duke Nukem Forever on this blog for, well, forever. But it’s coming right? May 3rd right? Wrong!

I’ve been talking about Duke Nukem Forever on this blog for, well, forever. But it’s coming right? May 3rd right?

Wrong!

According to Randy Pitchford, president of Gearbox Software, the game has been delayed until June 14th.

The release date hasn’t changed yet on any of the retailer’s sites such as Amazon, so this could be a final practical … but given Duke Nukem Forever’s history, a last-minute delay would be fitting.

Ugh.

Duke Nuken 3d.. A real blast from the past. I had heard that this was on its way again. Any idea on the platforming for this? Not my kinda thing anymore but maybe for a bit of nostalgia.

I know my brother is super excited for this game and I played the old Duke Nukem games so I may rent it or borrow it to see if I want to purchase it or not. That is if it ever comes out.

do you have any information on Zelda: Skyward Sword and it's delays. Huge fan of the series and every time I look it up in the pre-order sections of stores it seems another 2 - 3 month delay has been added to the release date.

No date was every set
LiquidLearner 24th Mar 2011
@bobiroc

So there isn't really a delay. All we know is we're supposed to get it this year. The retailers just put an arbitrary date in the future in order to take pre-orders. But I'm with you, screw DNF. Give me Zelda!

Well they are making me mad. Nintendo originally announced early to mid 2011 but now it looks like it may be a fall release.

You know I have played the old Duke Nukem games, and they were decent, but the bloggospeheres fascination with this eludes me. I cannot think of any other developer what has recieved soo much press in the tech blogs for delivering nothing.

@oncall how funny would it be if the entire game were vaporware? i'm not chomping at the bit to get it, so i think this'd be kinda hilarious....

@oncall

I cannot think of any other developer

Oh, it's not just one developer. The game has a long, sordid history spanning many developers and "Start from scratch" moments. It's like the Anna Nicole Smith of video gaming.

Can't think of any other game that gets so much press for delivering nothing? I can't think of any other game that has delivered nothing, so consistently, for so long. It's like it's cursed! happy

Gearbox? Isn't that the same crappy company who was supposed to be doing Half-life 2 Episode 3, like 50 years ago?

Half-Life has always been Valve. Gearbox made the excellent (albeit overlooked) "Brothers In Arms" series. I do share your resentment over no news on HL2 Ep. 3, though!

Great, my message is SPAM? Just because Gearbox is lame, and still hasn't even mentioned anything in over 3 years about Half-life 2 Episode 3. Lame-a$$ company.

I am pretty certain that this is just a publicity stunt. A joke, making fun of the game's development history by delaying it "one last time." Genius move, if so, actually, because it will get a LOT of free press, like this article (does anyone besides me even read zdnet anymore? They stopped becoming a reliable source of real IT and tech info a long time ago).

The problem with Duke Nukem is that the original creator was obsessed with coming out with the latest and the greatest. Every time some came out with something new, he wanted to either use it or beat it. They spent millions spinning their wheels. I do look forward to seeing what eventually get released, but nothing can live up to the hype that has now been built up. It's like drafting a kid at 16 and expecting him to go to the majors the next day, win 30 games, have 200 K, and just for giggles, 50 home runs.

doesn't matter...I'll still play it! I've waited this long for it...and it's not as if I don't have other wonderful games to play in the mean time! BulletStorm, COD-BlOps, Gears 3, Fear 3, and every Halo game is fun for a quick run and frag!

These guys need to get on the bandwagon. Web based games is the future. Quakelive for example. Try it if you haven't. I'm sure you'll enjoy it.

...before the U.S.? That just seems... odd.

Delayed? No surprise. Probably will be delayed again and again, just like the original incarnations of the game. It seems like the May 3 date must have been hype to get the attention of the public again. Stir the pot, get people excited.

Too bad people are just going to get burnt out on the delays.

It's sad, but this is a whole new GENERATION of players as a target audience than the original. Many of the newer gamers haven't even played the original because it's so dang old.

That's how long we've been waiting. I'll probably be bald or dead before this one comes out.

Nothing good can come from a company trying to make money off publicity a title has for being an epic failure of mythical proportions.

Good day to confirm this comment I would appreciate T h e b e s t o f Z D N e t d e l i v e r e d your website very nice to everyone Yes, Oracle is the only one with shared-disk architecture, but that is there advantage. It means you can add or remove nodes and the database lives on. In a shared nothing architecture, if you lose a node, you lose the system. I'm sure Oracle appreciates EMC highlighting their advantage.I also desire to signal in your RSS feeds. Thank you as soon as once again and maintain up the great operate Awesome post! Thank you very much || thanks for nice content this is really benefit to me.
