Its going to be just as boring as last year's announcement. They made another tablet that nobody wants. The live coverage will be just you and the other zdnet bloggers arguing the merits of the tablet.
@Loverock Davidson Which is why they've sold what, 15 million of them? You either enjoy trolling or you live in a fantasy world.

@butaneko
Or I realize that tablets are not the way to go and if it didn't have an Apple logo on it no one would be buying it. Its just a branding thats selling, that is all.
@butaneko
Everyone needs to stop responding to @Loverock Davidson's posts. Everyone knows he is a troll but the back and forth replies just fill up this blog and waste everyone's time. If we stop acknowledging his posts maybe he will eventually go back to his hole and die quietly.

tablet no one wants??? 15 million sold in 1 year. Several people holding off for ipad 2 that dont have ipad (myself included). any idea how many people have been speculating about the device? A lot of people not interested in the device? I'm going to take a wild stab in the dark and say you weren't a business major.

I don't mind the comment about it being boring, if your not interested then yeah it would be boring to you and thats your opinion and I don't mind people sharing their opinion (hell I am still ticked over the "big" Beatles on Itunes announcement). But the rest of what you said which you state as fact and not in an opinionated form it just idiotic and completely false. Would so many manufacturers the world over be trying to make tablets if nobody wanted them? Plus the fact tablets have been around for many years, Apple finally got it right with the ipad (granted I wish it had DVD slot but thats me).
So keep sharing your opinions but keep the lies to yourself. For all we know you work for apple competitors trying to steal the limelight away, but then for all you know I work for apple (I don't, but it could have been true).

You do realize that you can import DVDs through iTunes and transfer them to the iPad? The iPad would not have the great battery life, if Apple stuck things like a DVD drive in it. So it was a design compromise. I put a few movies on my iPod Touch, while it is not optimal for watching a movie on, in a pinch (like waiting at the registry) it?s not a bad way to distract yourself.

Tablets are not selling as well as people thought. 15 million? Thats about the same as Apple users, so only Apple people bought them. I have no idea why the others are making tablets, I can only guess its to try to grab some money from that 15 million before the fad goes away. Its not the smartest business move.

@Loverock Davidson "Another tablet that nobody wants"?? What? Are you serious? Look at how many iPads have sold in the past year. Do you even live on planet Earth!

@ loverock davidson: I really try to stay away from the bickering and listen to what others have to say. With that in mind, if you think that partying every night, alcohol, drugs, failed marriages, having your kids taken away, rehab, more rehab, etc., is the "good life", you just lost ALL of your credibility with any rational people.

I have an iPad. I use it daily. I know lots of people that do. It has nothing to do with an Apple logo on it and everything to do with being a great device. Very useful and handy. My MacBook rarely gets used anymore now that I have the iPad.

@Loverock Davidson

Around 80% of Fortune 100 companies have deployed iPads for their employees.

Apple have sold almost 15 million iPads in just nine months. No-one has ever had a product get off to such fast start.

In that time, over 100 million books downloaded from iBooks. Apple have just added Random House with 17,000 books. There are now over 2,500 publishers in the iBookstore.

People have created 200 million iTunes Store accounts.

Over 65,000 iPad apps are now available.

These are what we grown ups call FACTS.

Some people want to let you off by calling you a troll. I've come to the conclusion that you're either really stupid or genuinely retarded, in either case you deserve our sympathy.

How many hours for it to start?
zoi555 2nd Mar 2011
I can't wait, and Leverock if it was a tablet that nobody wants Apple wouldn't have sold millions. I think that it's not suitable for people who do not have middle class buying power

@zoi555
It only sold because it had Apple's name on it and everyone knows Apple fans will buy anything they produce.
@Loverock Davidson Ofcourse they'll buy anything Apple produces because anything Apple produces will be of a certain quality and standard and will also have an unmatchable user experience some thing most people want from technology.
It's the product that is helping the branding not the branding helping the product in Apple's case

@zoi555 It starts at 10:00 AM PST, that is, in 2 hours and 45 minutes.
@zoi555
Lovierock does have a point, Kind of like the Windows fanboys that ran out and bought Windows phone 7 phones, only because they have the word Windows in the name.
@Loverock Davidson
It just works, try it... very nice when your in bedroom and want to browse ZDNET, no need for a bulky laptop, it's nice!! better than a netbook that's for sure..

@Loverock Davidson
If that is what is called the good life, then I do not want any of it. I don't need to prostitute myself to the media and Hollywood and the TV industry to live the good life. The family I have ensures that.

That said, if you think the event is going to be boring, that is your opinion, and you are fully entitled to it. To say, however, that the iPad is only selling because of the Apple logo on it is to suggest that people don't have anything good to do with their money. I submit that that is a condescending tone you have adopted to the global consumer. The present global recession only highlights the mass appeal of the product, the fact that it is well made, and clearly, from the sheer numbers and minimal complaint, great user experience, seems to shout SUCCESS.

If you don't want an iPad, 1st gen or whatever, don't buy one, and don't follow the news on it. Better yet, don't comment on it, then you won't draw the comments of ridicule and derision from your peers.

Original iPad is okay with me
Mattheus Paulus 2nd Mar 2011
I have actually been waiting for iPad2 to release so that I can get a better deal on original iPad on overstock or "gently used". I have certainly tried other tablets, but I believe that Apple has done very well with its interface, which really does simply get out of the way and let the user use apps.

I admit that the whole AppStore DRM heavy-handed lock-down is a pain. However, Apple has to control for quality in order to protect its investment. There are two sides to EVERY story.
@Mattheus Paulus
Never had issues with DRM... songs don't have any DRM and I never get their movies from them etc..

I'm hoping they also announce an iMac refresh. I've never owned an Apple computer before and I need to replace my 6 year old PC. Supposedly it's due based on the historical pattern of updates.
@Bookmark71
Same here I'm finally ready to go MAC and dump windows 7... all the software I use is on MAC. Hopefully sometime soon I can replace my Windows Home Server with MAC OS X server!!

You're gonna love it!

I just dumped my HP for a MacBook Pro running Windows 7 in VMWare and I have never regretted it for a single second. I've got a Mac I love that runs all the Windows software I've invested in over the years, so I've got the best of both. Frankly, I've never had a single crash in Windows 7 on the Mac. It runs better and faster on Mac than it ever did on my HP. Plus it pairs seamlessly with my iPad and iPod, no matter which OS I'm pairing with.

It's pricey, I'll admit. But like my Beemer, once you take it out on the highway you WILL know why you spent the extra money.
I moved from Windows about a year ago and have never looked back. You can get nearly everything you have on Windows on Mac, if you can't then its probably a cheap product. 'Macs make your life easier'

daveincrete Updated - 2nd Mar 2011
I have withdrawn this comment as I based it upon information which turned out to be incorrect
Also, check out the USA Today and read the Fortune 500 companies that are purchasing boatloads of these to do their work, from salesforces to medical technology. Just so you know I am not a fanboy, I don't own a tablet of ANY kind yet. When I do, my hopes are with HP and the webOS-based toucHPad.
So now that the new iPad is out, it?s time to start speculating on the next iPhone.

I haven't gotten an iPad so far because, well, no Flash, and out of the office my Macbook Pro is king, but if the iPad is so much better, I may think about it. Can you tell me why it's been an effective replacement for your Macbook (in detail, please)?
