Here's the official announcement:

The millions of users testing Firefox 4 will be automatically updated to this version and will join our Mozilla QA team in validating the new features, enhanced performance and stability and HTML5 capabilities in Firefox 4. Testers are encouraged to check out the Web O’ Wonder in order to see the future of the Web with cutting edge demos that showcase the incredible online experiences developers can now create and users can experience. Developers can submit their own demos to the Mozilla Developer Network Demo Studio.

The important stuff from the release notes:

This Firefox 4 RC is considered to be stable and safe to use for daily web browsing, though the features and content may change before the final product release. At this time many Add-ons may not yet have been tested by their authors to ensure that they are compatible with this release. If you wish to help test Add-on compatibility, please install the Add-on Compatibility Reporter - your favorite Add-on author will appreciate it!

  • Just downloaded, installed on OSX and then removed after ten minutes

Nice browser. Much slower than Chrome or Safari. Too bad.

@kenosha7777 I tried it on a Windows 7 laptop. Sorry Mozilla but you still have work to do. Its s<a href="http://www.tran33m.com/vb/">t</a>ill slower then most now with IE9.

@alasiri6 I have the same issue, this version gets hand frequently and some of the tools are not supportive with this version.

That is good news, but I'm going to wait until final is released. Tried FF test builds before and they weren't quite up to par. Now lets hope they get the final build out soon.

@Loverock Davidson I thought you were waiting for IE9...you just can't decide can you?

      • Actually LD is always very pro Firefox, and...

        @Brick Tamland

...wanting (or in some cases including mine, needing) different browsers is not uncommon.

  • RE: Firefox 4 RC is out!

It updated when I opened it to run the sunspider Javascript test I posted in the other thread, I had a beta version before that.

It ran the test faster than Safari and Chrome although not by much.

Somehow Mozilla will rush Firefox 4 to launch on March 13 just to beat Internet Explorer 9 by a day.

totally agree... Congrats and thanks to the tem fo developers..

I love my Firefox and am actually very partial to it.. hehe.. though Chrome nowadays steals some of my time (its darn fast).. when it comes to serious browsing, i still prefer my own Firefox customized with the add-ons..

  • If only

someone somewhere would update the Delicious-bookmarks add-on so that it would work with FF 4.0 ! Delicious is by far the best bookmark service I've yet encountered and the ability to display all my bookmarks and tags in a side panel on FF (Namoroka) 3.6.16pre is the only reason that I'm still using it as my default browser, instead of switching to Chromium or FF 4.0....

  • Rush to ship RC

I think this could work badly for Firefox. I think they may be pushing it out because Microsoft is releasing a smoothly completed IE9. From what I have seen of Firefox 4. It leaves me feeling the same way as I do about Linux. Its very cold.

    • Rush?

How is a cycle of over 1.5 years a rush?

  • currently using previous

    generation, build: 3.6.15

I usually wait for the final release candidate. Let's hope it's worth the wait.

    I look forward to using F.F 4.0

I am not even sure I like the UI.
