The folks at Mozilla have officially released Firefox 8.0.1. This minor release fixes a couple of bugs.

The two bugs are as follows:

  • Fixed Mac OS X crash that occurred in certain instances when a Java Applet is loaded with Java SE 6 version 1.6.0_29 installed.
  • Fixed Windows startup crash caused by RoboForm versions older than 7.6.2.

Mozilla has also identified another 13 bugs in Firefox 8.0 that will be fixes in a later version.

You can download the update manually for Windows, Mac or Linux, or wait for the automatic update notification to kick in.

  • I'm suprised....

They fixed two bugs, that should be version 9 & 10 given their new versioning scheme. I'm can only imagine that they're planning on holding on the other 13 bugs so they can crank out versions 11 through 23 for release in January.

I find it amusing that people are so up in arms and constantly commenting and making remarks about Mozilla increasing their version releases, but say next to nothing about Google.

That's because we automatically divide the Chrome version by 10 to get the real version. For instance, the current version is 1.5

@Bonesnap I don't use Chrome; don't like it, so I don't care what they do with their version numbers.

Why would there be a Linux version of 8.0.1, given that the only two bugs it fixes are limited to OS X and Windows? :-)

@jgm@... OS X and Roboform, not Windows.

Update with Firefox 8.0 on 64bit Win 7 comes back no updates found.

It looks like you're only being offered this if you have Roboform installed or use MAC OS X.

I'm running Win7 and if I click the Firefox menu --> Help --> About, it says I have the latest version (8.0). I don't have Roboform installed. It says the same if I go to mozilla.com.

8.0.1#+*^ Lost add-ons, Home page Yahoo. changed the settings. Sometimes I get the homepage or after about 4 tries. On shut down I lose all the tabs I had open.
Probably be changing to FlashPeak SlimBrowser.

*sighs* I'm getting rather sick of the constant updates...if I wanted to endure this, I would have stuck to chrome. At this rate the plugin developers will never be able to keep up with compatibility. Just noticed I'm using 8. last I knew I was still running 7.1. guess I know why it's been running slow the last couple days. *grumbles*
While they are at it why the hell don't they set it up so it's not using 200mb of memory anymore...

I'm viewing this page with Firefox 9 (called Iceweasel by the Debian GNU/Linux project).

Funny how when I click on Help/About Firefox it says that 8.0 is up-to-date. Is it the time zone ?

I use Nightly 11.X 64 bit. But I did install 8.0 the other day when my nightly was broken for a few days.
