Friday Rant - Why, oh why didn't I pick up a Nintendo DS Lite ... ?

Regrets ... I have a few ... but my biggest one this week was not picking up a Nintendo DS Lite for myself.

Regrets ... I have a few ... but my biggest one this week was not picking up a Nintendo DS Lite for myself.

Here's a perfect example of my gaming snobbery getting the better of me (you know what I mean, that "chuck more CPU cores and GPUs at a game makes it a better game", and "gaming isn't gaming unless it's done on at least a 22-inch screen" kind of snobbery).  I view handheld games consoles with suspicion, and having made negative noises about receiving a Nintendo DS Lite for Christmas, I'm now excluded from the rest of my family.  They're all sitting together wirelessly hooked together playing all sorts of games while I'm stuck on my PC.  OK, I'm stuck on my PC playing Crysis (all that time I spend on the demo was time well spent!), but that's not the point!  There's nothing like sitting around looking at your own personal set of 3-inch screens to bring the family together.

Seriously, the DS Lite is a nice bit of kit, and like the Wii, becomes more addictive the more you play.  It also comes with some really interesting and unique games that sort of redefine what you have come to expect from games.

Darn it, why does Nintendo have to come out with such cool stuff?

Any Holiday regrets?  Feel free to let them out here, there's tea and sympathy on offer ... OK, well just sympathy!
