Google's geeky response to Steve Jobs' Android tirade

Summary: Steve Jobs didn't hold back when it came to criticizing Google's Android platform during Apple's earnings conference call. Now it's time for Google to take a swipe back.

Steve Jobs didn't hold back when it came to criticizing Google's Android platform during Apple's earnings conference call. Now it's time for Google to take a swipe back.

The swipe back comes in the form of a tweet by Google's Android chief Andy Rubin:

the definition of open: "mkdir android ; cd android ; repo init -u git://android.git.kernel.org/platform/manifest.git ; repo sync ; make"

Translated out of geek-speak, this tells Jobs, and anyone else, how they can build their own copy of Android on any  Linux machine. This flexibility and freedom is what Google believes to be at the core of the openness of Android.

So, who wants to roll their own Android?

    Steve Jobs got annihilated by Google, Tweetdeck, and RIM! No one can deny that Steve Jobs is a fantastic P. T. Barnum but every time he opens his mouth to criticize the competition, he ends up looking like quite the loser.

      @NonZealot Tweetdeck? What the Eff are you on about? RIM? Apple beat themby 2 million plus phones and Playbook is not being sold anywhere for months. Google? Apple has made more money in a quarter than Google will make all year. Get your head out of your backside and look around. Apple is at the top of it's game and changing the world.         @His_Shadow Apple isn't changing the world at all. It's trying to control it with its locked platforms. And actually if u know about sales Steve jobs said that they are ahead of rim by comparing RIMs august sales with Apple September sales. If you compare them side by side RIM sold atleast as many phones during the same period of time.

        @frgough ROFL do you really think that ios was ported to tablet format? Maybe you forget when the large ipod touch came out (iPad-) that there were no iPad apps and everything was just a stretched ipod app.
        Android needs the same thing as ios did, dedicated tablet apps. The new generation is a lot geekier overall than one would think. Even non computer savvy people carry around smart phones with complicated feature sets. Android is the OS of the future.

      Update: Looks like TweetDeck's CEO, Iain Dodsworth, felt the things Steve Jobs said were not quite accurate to say the least and made a tweet (actually, there were two) defending the Google platform as it was by far not perceived as a nightmare the whole development for the platform. Even more, with regards to Android fragmentation, he said "we only have 2 guys developing on Android TweetDeck so that shows how small an issue fragmentation is".


      Gee..... I wonder how many devs they had working on CrApple's iOS? haha..... heard it was 6 devs.... hmmm... so which OS is more fragmented to need 3times the developers working on it???

        @frankz00 haha... CrApple's Steve iHitler Jobs flaunts his Filthy Conceded ARROGANCE in Google's face like a BIG BULLY and we see idiots like bathing in it. Swagger's back with another Bill Gate's type Pie in the face from Tweetdeck's CEO (Developer's which is Andy's target) and Andy Rubin who incorporated the first Location Aware Touch Screen OS in 2003, riffles a blunt Pie in the Face message to the back of iHitler's belligerent empty head!...... "THAT'S OPEN FOR YOU"!!! :D That's Android.... the One and Only Original and it was being developed ground up almost 2yrs before CrApple even started their 30month development cycle of iPhone and it's simply down ported and touch screened OS-X!!!

        Will it change anything? No.... CrApple will still be saying "We Will Bury You" (with iSteve shaking a finger at the World) as his vision of World domination gets crushed by the Open Glasnost of Android getting installed on more devices and carriers of any OS on the Planet!!!!! Why? .....simply because the Future is Open!!! ;)

I hate to break it to you, but geeks are a minority and they don't equate to the spectacular sales numbers that Apple has had consistently for years now. As a shareholder, I'm quite pleased with the work Steve has done. The day he starts talking shell scripts is the day I dump my stock!

    i love you so much. Jobs is seriously digging himself into some holes lately. If its not the Antennage conference its the Earnings Conference. Jobs, stop it, your making yourself look bad, and apple look bad because of it.
