Install Windows 8 on your Mac

Summary: New update for Parallels Desktop for Mac 7 now offers that functionality.

Have you been looking for an easy way to install the Windows 8 Developer Preview onto your Mac? A new update for Parallels Desktop for Mac 7 now offers that functionality.

Parallels Desktop 7 for Mac build 7.0.15050 contains a number of bug fixes and improvements:

  • Download and install Windows 8 Developer Preview right from the Parallels Wizard.
  • Install OS X Lion using Install Lion.app.
  • Support for Ubuntu 11.10
  • Improved full screen experience with a new option allowing to scale the virtual machine screen to fit the visible screen area while keeping the resolution.
  • Improved support for non-English keyboard layouts.
  • Resolves an issue with the Apple USB Ethernet Adapter disconnecting from Mac OS.
  • Improved migration of the recent Linux versions from a PC to a virtual machine on your Mac.
  • And many other fixes and improvements.

If you’re already a Parallels Desktop 7 for Mac user, download the update. If you’re not, then check out the free trial.

there are hacks out there that allow you to install Windows 8 onto a Mac using Boot Camp, but they’re ugly. This seems like a far more sensible method to me.

QUESTION:
"Have you been looking for an easy way to install the Windows 8 Developer Preview onto your Mac?"

ANSWER:
Actually, no. I can do everything I need to with my MBPro running Snow Leopard, and even things I don't like doing at all--but must--like running MS Office. And running MS Office is more than enough evidence to convince me to never run any Windows OS on any computer, period.

Why? The consensus is that metro stinks on the desktop! Lion has a very smooth efficient interface thanks to the changes from Snow Leopard.

Smooth?

@Peter Perry After the last update, my iMac 24" took nearly 10 minutes to boot up and log in! shocked With Bootcamp and Vista, it flies... :-S Something wrong there!

Metro stinks is your opinion and please keep it to yourself, don't rub on us. Other than that you are ok. Also I had to restore my new Mac Book Pro with 8GB to Snow Leopard after having so many issues with Lion like responsiveness whenever I was using XCode and like @wright_is said above, it definitely slowed the machine while booting. I don't have any other software apart from the software that comes with Lion and MBP including Microsoft Office or Parallels on it other than XCode installed. I think something wrong with my system or Lion itself. I will wait for some more time before upgrade to Lion, definitely, not with current state.

Can do it with Parallels 6

I did just that. Some stuff doesn't work 100% but the junk that is Win 8 does work, poor UI and all.

Install Windows 8 on anything, it's little more than a cloud OS anymore. You'll get all the loss of privacy you get with Google but keep the corruption and greed of a Microsoft product that can now nickle and dime you on CALS and tiered pricing.

Yes - LoseDoze Operating System (O/S) 8 - that is the ticket. That would allow the disenfranchised MAC users to install the internet and browse the web and point and click and cut and paste and multitask and do all of the things that are so DIFFICULT if not outright IMPOSSIBLE to do with MAC software.
