At today’s iPad 2 event, Apple announced that iOS 4.3 would be available for download March 11th. Here’s a quick look at what’s new in this update.

AirPlay enhancements

AirPlay wireless technology allows users to stream content (music, movies, and photos) from your iPhone, iPad, or iPod touch to your HDTV via Apple TV.1 In addition to music, movies, and photos, AirPlay now streams video from your Photos app.

Safari performance enhancement

Nitro JavaScript engine powering Safari runs JavaScript up to twice as fast as in iOS 4.2.

iTunes Home Sharing

Now you can play your entire iTunes library (music, movies, TV show, podcast or audiobook) from anywhere in the house. If it’s on your Mac or PC, you can play it on your iPhone, iPad, or iPod touch over a shared Wi-Fi network.

iPad side switch

Customize the switch on the side of your iPad to lock the screen rotation or mute the volume.

Personal Hotspot (iPhone 4)

Personal Hotspot allows you to share your cellular data connection with your Mac, PC, iPad, or other Wi-Fi-capable device. You can share your connection with up to five devices at once over Wi-Fi, Bluetooth, and USB - with up to three of those connections using Wi-Fi. Required a suitable tethering plan.

@Adrian Kingsley-Hughes I would suspect it's the later as well since I used MyWi on my jailbroken 3G with no issues at all. Maybe it's a limitation set by the carriers to force the upgrade.

Did they do anything with bluetooth?
paul2011 2nd Mar 2011
iPhone 4 bluetooth is unreliable in many cars. I wonder if this problem is fixed in the new iOS or is it just new features. Can we see the full list of what is coming?

@pauliusp Usually when they post the update Apple will have a complete listing of what has been addressed. Until then, I suspect unless you're a developer you're not going to find out. The good news is that you get to read about it before you update.

@pauliusp Thats the first I've ever heard about iP4 and Bluetooth issues. Never had a problem myself.

(Not saying you're not having a problem...just this isn't something I'm aware of)

@samalie
iPhone 4 has a problem with multiple Mercedes and Toyota cars. Just google it.
Surprisingly bluetooth on iPhone 3G worked better. I expected this type of problem from version 1 of the software like Windows Phone 7 but not from version 4.
@paul2011: will be sorted out.

@paul2011 Yeah, I hear of Bluetooth related issues too ... not seen them myself (and I'm a heavy Bluetooth user) but some devices do seem problematic. We'll have to wait and see ...

Personal hotspot... iPhone 4 only
alainforget 2nd Mar 2011
Is there any reason why it won't work with other iPhone? A 3Gs with a decent data plan is capable of doing the job!

@alainforget The feature is just not available ... maybe it needs more ooomph of the A4 processor, or maybe it's Apple's way of getting people to buy a new iPhone.

Personal Hotspot
PepperdotNet 3rd Mar 2011
@Adrian Kingsley-Hughes I would say it's the latter. @alainforget can jailbreak it and install MyWi.

@Droid101
You should go away and download all 16, yes 16, apps that are specific for Android tablets. That should keep you busy for, say, 5 minutes.

And you mention this why?
james347 2nd Mar 2011
You don't use Apple products on a regular basis to know what your talking about. Stick to overpriced game cards and building PC's from scrap parts.

it's now extended to basically any third party apps and browser video and audio..

No bluetooth problems in a BMW -- can have both a iP3GS & iP4 connected at the same time -- iPhone comes up with an option to take the call on the car's speaker, the iPhone or BT headset if one is connected.
