Summary: Battery bug fix goes public.

Apple as released the iOS 5.0.1 update for the iPhone, iPad and iPod touch.

Contained is this update are the following fixes:

  • Fixes bugs affecting battery life
  • Adds Multitasking Gestures for original iPad
  • Resolves bugs with Documents in the Cloud
  • Improves voice recognition for Australian users using dictation

Does this update fix the battery issue that some users have been seeing?

Well, I’ve been in contact with a few developer who have been running the beta of this update for a few days. According to him his battery life had went up dramatically after installing this update, going from not being able to go a whole day without recharging to his handset easily lasting him an entire day. Another developer said that prior to installing iOS 5.0.1 on his iPhone he could see a battery life drop of as much as 10% over the course of an hour while the handset was doing nothing. After installing the update, the problem seemed to go away and he too could go a whole day without recharging.

iOS 5.0.1 is available via iTunes or OTA (Over the Air) for iOS 5 devices (Click Settings > General > Software Update).

Note: Jailbreakers will want to wait before updating. Everyone else is good to go!

This makes no sense

We had talkback after talkback from Apple fanbois who swore that there was no battery problem because they personally did not have a battery problem.

Since this must be true (these Apple fanbois wouldn't demonstrate faulty logic) then I have to question what Apple "fixed"?
@toddybottom
No i own a 4s and i can admit that my phone had a problem and its updating as we speak hopefully this will fix the issue

There were talkbacks and talkbacks implying that everyone had a problem when most were saying it was a small subset. Of the 5 people I know with the 4S, none had battery issues. It never showed up in any reviews. In short, the so called "Apple fanbois" simply said it was overstated by the iHater crowd.

Interesting response

@Bruizer
The Mac vs PC ads definitely overstated PC problems and yet the Apple fanbois loved those ads.

I guess this is a matter of "do as I say, not as I do". Fair enough.

I am curious though, how many people do you need to personally know who are affected by a problem before you will accept it as a real problem. In your sample size of 5, there were 0% problems. What percentage of people would you personally have to know with a problem for you to personally admit that there was a problem? After all, according to you, 0% of 4S owners suffered from battery issues.
@toddybottom: ... activity comparing to other threads there and to about ten million iPhone 4S phones sold, the subset is really small -- what was also directly confirmed by Apple's official response about this matter.

However, no sane reason would ever convince these who have religious beliefs about how bad Apple and its products are. So even there was the only one person complaining, for these people this would mean that all of Apple's products are faulty for all people.

I'll ask you the same question

"considering the level of ...
... activity comparing to other threads"

What level of activity would you expect to see before you would admit that there was a problem?
@toddybottom: ... but this trolling will be always exposed. Both Apple and others admitted that there was problem. However, as explained above, the scale of it is totally different from what "I hate Apple" religious people think.

If you tap on "Learn More" under the update summary you get an "About this Update" screen with a tiny bit more information and a "link" to an Apple support article. Try tapping on the link. Good luck.

Alright, alright already I'll admit it. In the past 11 years playing with OSX, I finally have a problem. Lion slowed my boot times by about 10 or 15 seconds and I lost BubblesX screensaver (still waiting for a promised update on bubbles). Losing that screensaver has irritated me so much I'll go off on a baby rant. Just wanted to know if you'd join me in a bi**hing session against Apple until I get my damn screensaver back, or maybe we could smash our MacBooks and iPads against a tree or something. Hell lets make a day of it and join the Occupy Wall Street movement and burn Apple shaped effigies in protest of evil corporate Apple. (hehe)
