Is Apple planning to release an updated iPhone that fixes the “Antennagate - Grip of Death” issue, or so says Marco Quatorze, Director of Value Added Services at Mexican wireless carrier Telcel.
Some initial thoughts:
- It’s unusual for a phone company executive to have such information
- If an executive has such information it’s unusual for them to be allowed to communicate that to sort of information to the public.
- Quatorze gives a date for the new release as the 30th of September, which coincidentally the same date that Apple’s current case program comes to an end. It’s quite possible that this quote is based on some sort of misunderstanding.
- If there is an updated iPhone, that’s going to raise all sorts of grief for Apple as customers lumbered with the old, defective phones complain and kick off lawsuits.
Personally, I’m not expecting a new iPhone, but if there is one, Apple better have a plan in place to deal with those who will undoubtedly be upset at their new iPhone 4 suddenly being an old iPhone 4.
