RE: Apple confirms March 2nd event - And it's about the iPad 2

Only one thing is stopping me from getting the iPad2 - lack of flash - most of our college library video databases use flash/captioned video - that's the deal breaker - so...Come on Apple - thought you cared about us in Education

Hooray, they can overcharge you for a useless device twice!
@Loverock Davidson

Where do I begin taking apart your comment? First of all it makes no sense in the context of the headline. Are you suggesting people who own an iPad 1 will now buy iPad 2s?

"Overcharge"? What do you base that on? What compares with the iPad that is substantially less expensive and comparable in quality? Let me know when you come up with something.

"Useless device"? Really? That's the best you got? The product that has the fastest penetration in the history of technology? Conservative estimates put the number of iPads being purchased for business at 25% of total sales. I guess all those people don't have the Loverock wisdom to realize iPads are useless.

If it cheers you up, Amazon has a sale on Etch-a-Sketches at twelve bucks and some change. Go for it! It is probably a better use of your valuable time then posting incoherent comments.
@jasonbaum
You should ignore Lovierock the Windows Zealot. If it doesn?t run windows to him/her it is junk. Never mind that Microsoft is known for shipping Alpha products and then upgrading them to beta level in the first service pack.

That's exactly what I'm suggesting.

Its called a laptop. They have been around for years for less than the $600 Apple will charge you for a less capable device.

"Useless device"? Really? That's the best you got? The product that has the fastest penetration in the history of technology? Conservative estimates put the number of iPads being purchased for business at 25% of total sales.
Really? And where are these businesses because I have yet to see one. We hear a lot of talk about businesses using iPads but no examples are ever given.

If it cheers you up, Amazon has a sale on Etch-a-Sketches at twelve bucks and some change. Go for it! It is probably a better use of your valuable time then posting incoherent comments.
And will keep people entertained longer than an iPad. ZING!
@jasonbaum "The product that has the fastest penetration in the history of technology?"

Sorry, that would be Windows 7, Nokia smart phones, and a plethora of other products. The Apple has a core demographic that continuously refreshes their investment in Apple products as new ones are released. However, overall market penetration is relatively flat.

Too hi tech for him!
MacNewton 23rd Feb 2011
@jasonbaum the Etch-a-Sketches is way to advanced for "Lovearock" Maybe a carbon-pad and a stick would be best for him... No thats not it! , A waxy-pad with plastic sheet and a stick that you can get at the dollar store should do it. Should be OK for him, not to much to learn and its low-cost, he should be right at home with the price. - PS Sent from by iPad1

Business Purchases
haugens 23rd Feb 2011
@jasonbaum
Sure businesses are purchasing iPads. They are not really being used for business, but they are purchasing them. I work at a computer company and we bought three of them. A few engineers played with them for a few days to see what they could do, then we tore them apart never to be reassembled again. An overpriced paperweight that we learned a little about how they made everything fit.
Funny thing is, several of our engineers are buying tablets. Either Andriod or Windows tablets. I have not seen one engineer toting around an iPad, and all I can say is that they have real work to do, and that device just doesn't cut it.
@jasonbaum
Amazon bought Etch-a-Sketch, and renamed it Kindle.
@jasonbaum
OMG.... it's like New Year's Celebration all over again for iCrAppleholics who'll all be delirous over CrApple bringing things in the new model that should have been there in the first place. Like more RAM, better video, FLASH..... oh yeah CrApple won't allow FLASH to show up their own CrAppleware Quicktime (which should be abandoned for HTML5 instead, but somehow this crapware is still being used). Quicktime.... haha.... is ever a misnomer! lol....

Funny how an old senile plugin like Quicktime was deemed more worthy than FLASH for CrApple. Yet FLASH is now on about every platform and mobile device out there. With around 3 Million FLASH Developers (and growing) in this world. It now even makes iOS (w/ no more than 50,000 developers) pale by comparison (only a few making any money btw.... especially after CrApple takes their cut)! lol..... Quicktime, you know the plugin rated next worse to ActiveX for Security! haha.... grin ....while FLASH is simply the BEST and Widest Distributed Plugin on the Planet!

EAT YOUR HEARTS OUT ALL YOU iCrAppleholics Living Off Steve iHitler's Garden Walled RDF (Reality Distortion Field) intoxication!!! wink
@jasonbaum it is very useful device for businesses that want to sell their content. About "overcharging", for a device which only purpose is to sell content to the user, it is a very expensive. I do not understand why would the consumers even buy it. They can can access to the same content without spending all this money on a shiny toy. Oh, yeah, I forgot... it is because it is cool and the Gen XYZ feels peer pressure. Let's get real though. Are we discussing the business models here or the actual technology at hand?

@Loverock Davidson, your IQ is showing again!
@MacNewton "@Loverock Davidson, your IQ is showing again!"

Oh my gawd, not both of it!
@Loverock Davidson

Useless device? Um, that would be the Zune.
@Monkeypox
I'm going to have to disagree there. The Zune is a wonderful mp3 player that is not tied to iTunes, which is a huge plus. The Zune software is far superior to iTunes in almost every way imaginable.
@Loverock Davidson Yup your 100% right about that word USELESS... wink

Where does it explicitly state ipad 2?
facebook@... 23rd Feb 2011
Why not an event to re-introduce themselves back into the enterprise space with a rack mounted server? The Xserve2? No where in that press release were the words "this is about ipad2" appear.

@facebook@... "No where in that press release were the words "this is about ipad2" appear."

You are correct. However, if you look at the image within the story it is crystal clear the event is about the iPad2!

@jonesy540 Yep, surely looks like an iPad to me, too. I don't know what they mean by, "what 2011 will be the year of" - they already missed a big chunk of it. (30%, I'd say, by the time it's available for purchase - heh, heh: maybe that's Apple's standard cut.)

Easy dont like it don't buy it. I don't like ford so guess what i don't buy them. Do i go out and slag of ford because i dont like them ? NO because some people out there are entitled to have an opinion of their own. I think if i owned a company like APPLE and had a bunch of people (even if you think they are lemmings) who religiously buy my product, i would be proud of my acomplishments. Next stop world domination happy
@svanzyl@... xApple user for 15 years. I've lived with Apple hype a long time. I certainly can see where Apple is putting a lot of it's capital--into rags like ZDnet and Huffington post. It's plain irritating when there's lots of other great things going on. It's not that I started hating Apple. I got bored and discovered that Windows runs on a lots of cool computers whereas Apple locked me in for years to some great and some poor machines. I have variety now. The hype/coolaid or whatever you call it just doesn't work any more. And when I com to read about news I want I get this never friggin ending hype about Changing Everything. Again! Momma mia.
@michaelmarian2 Wait, you quit using apple when they gave up that god awful abomination on the eyes of man and god operating system os9 and switched to bsd based osx? This does not speak well for you.

Insecure slagging on tech products...
John_Turner 23rd Feb 2011
All in all, a working demonstration of the Buddhist credo that wanting things is one of the greatest sorrows in life.
@John_Turner thank you!
Looking forward to the hype being over. So boring.
For one example, our company uses the iPad for site visits to construction sites. We can carry a complete set of drawings in PDF and DWG format (or access them transparently via DropBox), review them at a readable size, mark them up (in both formats), and save them to DropBox for immediate revision back in the home office. This saves lugging big, heavy rolls of drawings on airplanes and around the construction site. It also dramatically speeds up the distribution of revised drawings. The staff member doing the site visit always has the latest versions. Also, we tried using a laptop and it was cumbersome at best. The iPad is perfect for our needs.

@ipadsucks I wouldn't say that iPad sucks. I think it and iPad 2 are great devices for non technical users.

Every live blog of this event I read really stunk of fanboyism. This is a 1.2 version of the device. 30% thinner? great. Still 1.3 pounds? Not good enough. Too heavy, no flash support, limited multitasking, no sd card or usb. The second version of this device looks a lot like the first. It won't surprise me if people are whipping out the AMEX (I really think you are cool for using Amex and an Apple product ZDnet liveblogger, please pinch me) to buy it but it is a bad purchase in my opinion. If you like iPad, wait for the next version.

Pure Genius!!
james347 2nd Mar 2011
Everything else is just cheap, imitations. I can already sense the panic spreading thru the Microsoft Campus now.
@james347 I disagree. Microsoft is so far from producing a real tablet OS that any panic they would have happened a long time ago if at all. They seem completely lost in the fog.

The panic here is on Apple's part. I had suspected that the iPad 2 was being released now because Apple is worried about Honeycomb tablets which provide more functionality (relax, they aren't perfect either). The beginning of this presentation (look how great we are and how terrible everybody else is) smacked of iPad 2, which is really not really a full 2.0 version of the iPad, being a device that is rushed to market out of fear.
@james347
Kinect trumps iPad in a huge way. And I generally hate MS.

How can anyone possibly compete with Apple in this new frontier? It has to be so incredibly deflating to be Samsung, Motorola, et al, when Apple releases a new product.
