Nintendo US CEO Reggie Fils-Aime has admitted that the company used footage from Xbox and PS3 titles during its demon of the new Wii U HD at the Electronic Entertainment Expo taking place in Los Angeles this week.

Speaking to GameTrailers during a post-presentation interview he was asked if the demos shown were of the Xbox and PS3. He replied:

"Absolutely, because we're talking a year away from when the console will launch."

So, basically Nintendo is saying that it doesn't have any HD footage worth showing of the Wii U yet, so here's footage from other consoles ... which may or may not look like the Wii U in the end.

Trust no one ...

    With Kinect, Wii is dead.

@hakanernnews ... it certainly feels like a massive gamble ...

Microsoft only has to sell 30 million more consoles and 70 million more kinects to catch the Wii. Oh wait, neither of those are likely to happen anytime soon, if ever.

I'm confused by their choice to do that. The HD tech demos on the floor of E3 look absolutely fantastic. Nintendo could have treated that whole thing better by saying "here are some of the games you can expect to see on Wii U," thus giving third party game developers their spot in the Wii U limelight, then following with "just so you know, that wasn't footage on the Wii U of those games, but THIS is." The Zelda HD tech demo would have been a more-than-welcomed demo to show off capabilities of the console at that point -- along with the bird demo, of course.

Not sure how it was presented at E3 but on their site they just call it a software line up. Nothing seems to indicate that it was actual Wii U software as some of those games are still in development. I think it was mostly assumed that it was Wii U footage.

I have no doubt that the graphical power of the Wii will be more than adequate so I see no problem with this unless the E3 announcement stated specifically that these games were running on Wii U hardware.

Predictions of dead consoles are dead.

The Wii (86M) has outsold both the Xbox 360 (55M) and PS3 (50M) and it was the last of the 3 to be released. I would hardly call it dead. Also don't forget Nintendo made a profit on every one since day one.

  • What about the Zelda Footage?

There was an impressive looking Zelda game that was used to demo the graphic capabilities of the system.

As far as a gamble goes I think it will do fine. If they can deliver better online play and developers got off their ass and made good titles instead of porting over and watering down titles then it would be fine. It has something unique to distinguish itself from Kinect which is all that it i needs.

Wow, shame, I personally think Nintendo is jumping the gun and should not launch until the other consoles launch. Firing early like this is dangerous and may lead to what occurred with the Sega DreamCast

While the footage of those games was taken from other platforms, Fils-Aime clearly believes there was no harm in showing it since the "experience" on the Wii U, planned for a 2012 release, will be similar. car title loan
