Psystar's at it again!

Summary: Being caught up in a fierce legal battle with Apple hasn't stopped a small Florida-based Mac clone maker called Psystar from coming out with updated fakey Macs.

Being caught up in a fierce legal battle with Apple hasn't stopped a small Florida-based Mac clone maker called Psystar from coming out with updated fakey Macs.

The latest model, called the Open(3), sports a new slimline case and updated components.

The base price is $599, and this buys you a 2.8GHz E7400 Core 2 Duo system with 2GB or DDR2 800 RAM, a 500GB 7,200RPM SATA hard drive and a GeForce 8400GS 256MB GPU.

Start adding optional extras such as a 2.53GHz Q8200 Core 2 Quad, 4GB or RAM, a pair of 1TB drives, a Blu-ray burner, a GeForce 9500GT 512MB GPU and Mac OS X with iLife and the price is now closer to $2,000.

Well, since the judge hasn't stopped them yet... I'd say they still have a business to run.

The only thing that bothers me about the new computer is that the high end of the GPU options, isn't that great.

• so...

buy the cheap one and upgrade it yourself...

• This sounds like their version of the mini

And adding bluray? Please, what a waste. A *pair* of 1TB hard drives? To a low-cost computer? Why?

Look at this for what it is, a low-cost machine that happens to come with OS X. Hardly something you'd want to soup up.

• Good for Psystar fighting the evil mega corporation!

In the fight between the cute, cuddly, little guy and big, multi-billion $$$/year, multi-national megacorporation, we have to support the cute, cudly, little guy. At least that is what years of Apple vs MS fighting has taught. :)

Hey NZ, On a related topic, the American Psychiatric Association has
recently added Internet troll personality disorder to it' Diagnostic
and Statistical Manual of Mental Disorders. You might want to peruse it
and see if you notice a pattern forming.

• Isnt that right with

the Apple kool-aid syndrome ?
rparker009
• Isn't that right with??

Interesting question.

I can surmise the major difference is that Internet trolling personality
disorder is an actual psychological condition that people like NZ suffer
from. He shows all of the symptoms as defined by the American Psychiatric Association. Whereas the Apple Kool-aid syndrome is a
made-up moniker that Anti-Apple fanbois use to insult people.

BTW, It was grape flavoraid used in Jonestown not Koolaid. They can't
even get the allusion right.

• Now you've done it, NZ....

You've rubbed their faces in their hypocrisy. They aren't going to appreciate that, as the excrement-themed comments attest.

:)

• Amazing how quickly those with no argument resort to name calling

The instant you get someone to call you a name in a debate is the instant you won. People with real arguments have no need to resort to name calling.

• Quickly you say? We've been arguing with you for

well over a year now and no manner of logic dents your inane and
often redundant and oh so easily proven false statements you simply
choose to ignore when proven wrong and move onto the next post like
nothing was said or shown to you like profit, revenue, tech histories,
the many failings of the products and OS's say like WM that you push.
We have answered all your claim in volume and repeatedly time and
again and yet it is you who stand mum when faced with facts. Then
you move onto the next Apple post and regardless of the subject keep
going back to the same old tired and often proven wrong time and
again arguments.

So no its not name calling its more like you have now a good case to
charge us with definition of character..:P

• Debate

ROFL that's the worst definition of a debate I've ever heard. You win a
debate? That explains a lot.....

And people have been trying to get you to stop trolling for years

• @NonZealot

Your right, there is not argument. What's there to argue? Your just
trolling Apple blogs, spouting off BS as usual.

What's the matter NonZ, did I hit to close to home and you had my post
removed?

• "Proof, or it didn't happen."

Do you mean when you posted lies about me, you were admitting that
you have no real argument?

Since you lied about me, and never even attempted to prove your
accusations (since they were lies you couldn't have proved them anyway),
nor have you apologized, if I call you a coward, that's not name calling.

That's the truth.
msalzberg
• Not so, amigo!

People can use real arguements and still resort to name calling. The problem with correct, but sterile, arguements is that they carry very little emotional content. It's much more satisfying to add that anyone who would make mistakes 1-7 is obviously a Schnozzlated Fraking Noodlenutzer on methylated deoxyribonucleic acid than it is to merely list their 7 errors.
Dr_Zinj
• Of what hypocrisy do you speak?

All NonZ did was make some sort of tired and often spouted by him claim
that Apple is somehow and evil empire and then pretty much not bother
to define his method to prove said statement. At least those who make
the agruement that MS is such an evil empire (one that I have never
made) have the trial that determined that MS is A: A monopoly and B:
Used said powers as a monopoly in a questionable fashion that resulted
in regulations against said. Apple has not been proven to be a monopoly
and there for can not be using monopoly powers. So again why
hypocrisy are we talking about here?

James Quinn
• Apple pushes around the little guy...

Isn't that part of the definition of evil? And they are leveraging a monopoly by not allowing others to use the OS they've purchased on the hardware they choose. They're using the courts to defend their monopoly instead of allowing the free market to work. If Apple believes their model is indeed the best model then let the market decide.

People want Mac for the masses. Apple says: "Mac OS X for those who can afford it. Everyone else can use Windows and we'll make fun of them for it." Heartless.
JumB0B0B
• Fallacy

"...they are leveraging a monopoly by not allowing others to use the
OS they've purchased on the hardware they choose." You've just
outdone NonZealot's weak definition of a debate with this definition of
a monopoly (EDIT: abuse of monopoly power) , I am impressed. That's
like saying "Nike is a (EDIT: an abusive) monopoly because it doesn't
allow other companies to put Nike shoelaces into other shoes and then
brand those shoes Nikes". Or how about we put Audi engines in Fiats?
You think Audi would be happy about that? How about the fact that I
can't use the copy of Windows that came with my laptop (that fried
exactly one month out of it's 1 year warranty grrr....) on any other
computer? How's that for unfair?

You need to go re-examine the logic and look up antitrust and
monopoly law on wikipedia while you're at it.
theoxygenthief
• Monopoly

The copy of windows that came with your laptop was sold at an oem discount with the hardware. You CAN however transfer that copy to another machine, if when you attempt to activate it the activation fails, you simply call the number provided and explain the situation in simple terms. (Laptop failed, had to replace major components to get it working again.) Now, as to the other, you can always buy Windows at retail (just like you can buy MAC OS at retail), and install the retail version of windows on any hardware you want. The difference is that if you buy Mac OS at retail, you can ONLY install it on Apple's hardware. That's Apple's attempt to create a monopolistic environment for their software.
