Samsung unveils new 32GB Class 10 'high-speed' microSD card

By | June 30, 2011, 9:24am PDT

Want a high-capacity, high-speed microSD card for your camera? Samsung’s got you covered!

These new 20-nanometer-class offers 32GB of storage at a Class 10, the highest speed class currently available (above Class 4 and Class 6). These cards offers write speeds of 12 MB/s and read speeds of 24MB/s. This makes them ideally storage partners for modern smartphones featuring 1080p-capable cameras.

“The industry demand for high-class-rated memory cards addresses the growing performance push for next generation mobile applications in more advanced smartphones including 4G models,” said Wanhoon Hong, executive vice president, memory sales & marketing, Samsung Electronics. “As the industry adopts microSD cards with a class 10 rating, the superior data transfer speeds are expected to improve the mobile user experience tremendously.”

You can find higher capacity microSD cards out there (KINGMAX introduced a 64GB Class 6 card back in May) but you won’t find faster.

No pricing details have been released, but I expect these to set you back a fair few dollars.

Now if only they could make it that small yet fast enough to function as a SSD, I'd love to have a boot drive that small. Alas, I must wait another 5 years.
