UPDATE: Windows Phone 7 hits RTM stage

The word is that the Windows Phone 7 mobile operating system has hit the RTM or Release To Manufacturing milestone.

Hitting the RTM stage means that the operating system is complete and is now shipped to manufacturers and cellphone providers so that it can be customized and loaded onto hardware.

According to Paul Thurrott there are some last minute changes, including some Facebook related changes and a sprinkling of UI-related tweaks.

There’s no official word from Microsoft yet. Official confirmation here.

Expect handsets to hit shelves October/November.

I am looking forward to something new in my phone, time for an upgrade anyhow and with all the other MS products I use this will integrate nicely.

Totally agree... That is, if you like Pacific Northwestern Design. It's just missing a background image of a logger next to a totem pole, and a ringtone ala "Smells Like Teen Spirit"

The bottom line now is for Microsoft to fill Radio and Television with advertisements to let the Mass public know that that windows Phone 7 exists and what great features it has that make it a phone they would want to own. Failure to do this right means less phone sales. MS must also rush to give it, Multitasking, cut and past and a flash player ap to compete with other smart phones

I tried this phone some time ago, and had only one complaint-- the lawn mower-style pull cord needed to start the phone.

Also, after about 20 minutes of use, the exhaust fumes from the phone can be very overpowering; but I think this is by design to keep people from using the phone, and keep the wireless networks free of congestion. Some elderly customers may find it difficult to breathe while using this phone.

But anyways, I'm definitely looking forward to it. I just hope that they've managed to remove or shrink the detachable trailer diesel generator required to run the phone. If not, it may affect sales.

People need to realize that NO MOBILE DEVICE NEEDS FLASH. Flash is an old technology built without mobility in mind such that it requires lots of resources to run and also crashes a lot, which is why Apple does not want it. Google is trying to squeeze it into Android but it sure is not working out well. And they both do not want to go Silverlight simply because it is a competitor's technology, well, they have no choice but eventually adopt Silverlight which does much more than Flash can ever do in addition to being a light coded solution. Of there will be haters of WP7 who fail to realize what it brings to market and also fail to realize that it is actually starting off as a much more advanced mobile device than any other one out there started off with and even their current state. Not too long from now we will all see the power it brings anyway, hopefully MS does a good job at good marketing unlike those they did for both Kin phones. Enterprise and consumer features have no match and things like cut/copy & paste, etc have already been acknowledged by MS as to be delivered via updates, so making noise about them makes no sense.

I can't wait to see the reactions 6months to 1 year from now about this OS from all of the Microsoft haters and all of the I-Naive users. Reacting to how successful it will be that is.....

Wahoo!! I've been waiting since FEBRUARY to get this #$%#@ phone. Finally, it's just about here....

It appears the Trolls must have given up on slamming WP7. It must be too good to trash because I don't see any comments from Trolls extolling, "FAIL!!", "It's going down like the KIN."

Refreshing for once, actually.
