UPDATED: Apple releases update to fix flickering 27-inch iMacs

By | December 21, 2009, 3:06pm PST

Apple releases a firmware update to fix a screen flickering issue with 27-inch iMacs.

The new 27-inch iMacs have been giving Apple more headaches that most releases. First there were reports of units being shipped with cracked screens, then performance issues relating to Flash, and then screen flickering problems. The Flash issues was resolved a little while ago with the release of Mac OS X 10.6.2, and this latest firmware update should cure the screen flicker problem.

in before the trolls...
lostarchitect 21st Dec 2009
here they come:

NZ: But that's impossible! Macs don't have issues! Some random guy in an
apple T-shirt told me, so it's true! Windows on my MBP is sooooo dreamy!

LD: That 27" screen is actually, like only 6". I measured it. It's true.

Random Linux guy: This is just one more example of Apple forcing their
own ideals down my throat! What if I *want* my screen to flicker, huh?
What about that?!?

random guy in an Apple T-Shirt said that to someone, so it's true!
Windows on my MBP is sooooo dreamy! Now I have to go post this on
every blog with an "Apple" tag.

What is the definition of a troll?
NonZealot Updated - 21st Dec 2009
Someone who posts comments that have nothing to do with the article. This begs the question: what does my MBP have to do with 27" iMacs? This leads to the answer: lostarchitect is a troll.

Good for you Apple for "fixing" this. Too bad your fix sucks since it isn't working for most people. But I'm sure that isn't a big deal. They've waited 2 months for you to acknowledge that this was a problem so what's another 6 months?

PS Since we are bringing up my computer systems, I have to ask what I could do to make my PC display flicker as badly as this iMac? I'm missing out on all the flickering fun!! sad

PPS Why does it bug you so much that I like Windows on my MBP? It obviously struck a nerve or you wouldn't have brought it up in your troll post. You realize that your precious Apple makes just as much money when smart people erase OS X and install Windows on Apple hardware, right? So don't worry, I've done my part in supporting the Apple regime. In fact, by not blindly supporting Apple, there is a better chance that I'll actually help Apple improve. It is the fanboys like you that discourage Apple from ever doing better.

Much appreciated. What I really wanted for Christmas is less Apple fanboyism on MS related posts but I won't hold my breath. happy

I'll talk to my people about that

In reality though, I use Windows more than OSX (shocking, right?) and I'm
not anti windows at all, personally.

because right now the iMac is in the fireplace: with the screens closed the flicking screen gives the impression of a real fire going for the Holidays, without the added mess... happy
