What will Apple unveil at WWDC?

By | June 4, 2010, 10:44am PDT

Summary: Apple’s World Wide Developer Conference 2010 kicks off Monday, and Steve Jobs and the crew will use the keynote speech to unveil products and services to tempt you to part with your cash.

Apple’s World Wide Developer Conference 2010 kicks off Monday, and Steve Jobs and the crew will use the keynote speech to unveil products and services to tempt you to part with your cash.

But what will these products and services be?

Here’s a quick roundup:

  • New iPhone 4G - Almost a certainty. What’s going to be interesting here is whether the handset will be anything like the stolen one that landed in Gizmodo’s hands.
  • iPhone OS 4 - Again, almost a certainty.
  • Cloud-based iTunes - About 6 months ago Apple bought, and then subsequently shuttered, the Lala music streaming service. Some sort of streaming service from Apple is expected by many.
  • Game Center - Think of it as an Xbox Live for the iPhone.
  • Hardware updates - Apple TV, Mac Pro and Macbook Air could all be in line for an update.

Tune in for live coverage of the WWDC keynote speech on Monday.

An OS X (Mac) powered Tablet
John Zern 4th Jun 2010
Since we know other companys are building PC based tablets, Apple won't wont to be left out of that market while they still have the "coolness" factor working with them at the immediate moment.

Perhaps, but I think it would be unlikely.

@John Zern... Perhaps a multi-touch activated iMac, kind of like the Touchsmart PC's

Honestly, as much as I am intrigued by the design of the iPad, which I think for the form factor the iPad does a really good job, I just can't see a slate style device being used for much more than mild computing, or content consumption. I think that slates regardless of the OS will be in that in-between market of smart phones, and notebooks.

The form factor will always leave it self in the necessary position of needing the ability to be docked or placed on some kind of stand for content creation, not to mention there are trade-offs even there between high performance hardware, and low powered hardware to make the device thin and light, and easy on battery consumption.

Personally, I just don't ever see a slate form factor device eliminating the need for a laptop or a desktop.

You could be right.

A Touchsmart style Mac would be competing with HP and Dell products, though a tablet style Mac would also be competing with the iPad itself, something Apple may not want.

And I agree that tablets are in the niche between smart phones and notebooks/laptops, though my personal preference would be a full OS tablet (Windows/Mac/Linux) that I can dock when I want to use a full blown PC, or when i just want to use Media Center on the road for movies, or something.

It's a shame ATT will tier their rate as we globally trend towards streaming access and cloud storage. It almost reminds me of the old Bell phone company's monopoly prior to deregulation. Perhaps new iPhone/Pad purveyors will boast unlimited plans.

I like the idea of a cloud based itunes where you can free your device from your desktop or laptop computer. I would sure like to be able to sync my iPhone or iPad via WiFi and be able to stream movies and songs.
Look at something that was innovated 3-5 years ago, add an 'i' to the front of it, and that will tell you what Apple will announce at WWDC.

Apple are orders of magnitude more innovative than you could ever hope to be.

Be innovative, get a job at Foxconn.

I still think we're going to see iPhone not only on Verizon, but T-Mobile as well. The fact that AT&T changed their data plan structure this week says a lot. Two way video chat with the iPhone will be pretty cool too. Is anybody else doing that?

Why can't Apple innovate at all?
NonZealot Updated - 5th Jun 2010
Apple is too much into copycat mode, they won't take chances to innovate. Here is a perfect example of an Apple product we will never see because Apple is too chicken to make it:

http://mobile.engadget.com/2009/03/22/cool758-razor-phone-really-can-shave-awaits-complete-market-sat/

with innovative features like shaving people's faces, we could really see this Cool758 "razor phone" breaking into the double digits. Just pop the cap off the bottom and you've got a fully functional shaving implement

You know? Sometimes they can be more entertaining than the typical fanboys (pro or con)... I mean, at least with some of the spams you get ASCII art out of the deal. happy
