Windows Phone 7.5 'Mango' goes live!

By | September 27, 2011, 10:23am PDT

Summary: Mango update headed to a Windows Phone near you!

Windows Phone users, it’s time to be happy - You’re finally going to get your hands on the Windows Phone 7.5 ‘Mango’ update.

Yes, Microsoft is finally pushing out the update that it first previewed back in May!

The update will be pushed to existing Windows Phone handsets over the coming weeks.

Here’s how Eric Hautala describes the launch on the Windows Team Blog:

Today we’re starting the roll out of Windows Phone 7.5 to more than 98 percent of existing Windows Phone customers. This is a simultaneous, coordinated, global update that cuts across carriers, phone models, and countries. This time, almost everybody is going first.

Here’s a rundown of the Mango goodness that you can look forward to in the update that Microsoft is calling ‘people-centric‘:

  • Third-party app multitasking
  • Speech command
  • Improved Microsoft Office, with Office 365 support
  • Custom ringtones
  • Visual voicemail
  • YouTube integration
  • Updated Bing search engine
  • Improved hubs

More info on new features here.

In the market for a Windows Phone 7.5 handset? You’ll have to wait a few weeks for makers to get up to speed. Probably the first to hit the US market will be the Samsung Focus S on the AT&T network.

Well now that Microsoft has a truly good smart phone in the
market place they need to get lots of advertisements out there to let people know they have a great product that is useful and award winning a lot of Microsoft windows phone 7 commercials I have seen stunk Microsoft tell people what
this phone can do and people will buy them.

Somewhere in the world, someone is going to have problems with this update.

AKH will then write a flurry of blogs about how 7.5 is bricking handsets.

@toddybottom

don't forget the part where he says why " ... he is not surprised ..." followed by an far-fetched " ... how it could have been done better ..." finally followed by a comparison to how Apple does it, because they never have problems like an update making a phone slower.

*note for the apple fans, this is not a complaint about apple, it is about AKH. You can still enjoy your excellent device without fear that somebody is looking down their nose at you.

Even better

It will have a link to a SJVN article.

Okay, that was below the belt. AKH isn't that bad. I still fail to see why showing off software 6 months before release is a bad thing. Developers had plenty of time with it too.
