If you're a huge Medscape fan like I am, and you like to consume content on your Kindle Fire as much as I do, you'll be thrilled to know that the Medscape free app is now available for your Kindle Fire.

If you're not familiar with WebMD's Medscape, now would be a good time to learn more about this great web resource, which is loved by physicians, nurses, and other healthcare professionals of all stripes, as well as interested consumers.

There is a wealth of information up there in Medscape land. If it's news you want, you can check out the medical news on a daily basis, learn what's going on at major conferences, and get alerts. You can research topics of interest about diseases and conditions, and read entire peer-reviewed medical journal articles. If you're a nurse (or other healthcare professional with obligatory continuing education requirements) you can find help with your CME.

Medscape has a custom version of the National Library of Medicine's MEDLINE database, as well as a great drug reference that contains information about brand, generic and over-the-counter (OTC) drugs. There is even a drug interaction checker where you can enter multiple drugs and see if there are any potential dangers when a number of different drugs are prescribed or added to an existing regimen.

All you have to do to access the joy is register on Medscape.com and set up your free account. Go ahead! Make your day. Then kick the fun up a notch by downloading the new app and geek out by reading article after article on your Kindle Fire.

Finally, some articles worth reading while you're sitting in the waiting room at the doctor's office! You won't even need to paw through those germy, boring magazines.

How to download the Medscape App on your Kindle Fire

Just search for "Medscape" in the Amazon Appstore, and download the free app. I did it right from my Kindle Fire. It was easy to find, and it took only a few minutes. You'll need to sign in the first time you use it by entering your existing username and password in order to access all the goodies.

But what about my iPad?

If you don't have a Kindle Fire, you may prefer one of the many other platforms, such as iPhone, iPad, Blackberry or Android device, for which Medscape's free apps are also available. Visit MedscapeMobile for more information on how to make sure you can escape to Medscape whenever and wherever you want to!

Do you love Medscape, too? Have you downloaded the app yet? What do you think of it?
