Mitsubishi on LaserVue HDTV: L65A90 is in "full production"

In yesterday's post, I noted the price drop on Amazon.com for Mitsubushi's first laser-based rear-projection TV, the LaserVue L65A90, and also pointed to a link on a CNET shopping page that suggested the set was discontinued.

In yesterday's post, I noted the price drop on Amazon.com for Mitsubushi's first laser-based rear-projection TV, the LaserVue L65A90, and also pointed to a link on a CNET shopping page that suggested the set was discontinued. (Note I never said that the TV was discontinued.) That spurred Mitsubishi to email me a brief reply that I'll quote in its entirety below:

"Our L65A90 65" LaserVue TV has not been discontinued. In fact we are (and have been) in full production."

The CNET home theater edit team also got in touch to confirm that the LaserVue hasn't been discontinued, and to point out their current product link. Since the editorial staff doesn't deal extensively with the comparison shopping engine team, they weren't sure why the inaccurate link was available via a Google search. In any event, the L65A90 is alive and well, and slightly cheaper at Amazon.com than it had been before.

I did reply to Mitsubishi to find out any plans for future LaserVue products, but have not yet received a follow-up response. A 73-inch laser set was announced at one point, but hasn't been released. It'd be great to have rear-projection HDTVs survive with laser technology succeeding DLP, so it'll be interesting to see if a second generation of LaserVues will eventually see the light of day.
