A little off topic today as the world has gone all quiet. You can be an all-knowing computer science boffin and still not grasp the concept of the "GPU" and what it does. Pretty much everyone knows what the CPU is and does, but when it comes to graphics, a lot of us are left in the dark.

The Mythbusters duo teamed up with Nvidia to show a more interesting demonstration about how the CPU and the GPU related to each other, but also why they are two very separate entities in a computer.

If you want to see these in high-definition; the whole video and the slow motion replay, you can download them in 720p, 480p and 320p formats directly from the website. I just uploaded this to YouTube if you were short on time, as most of you probably are.

Now, I love the mythbusters, and I love nVidia, but name one nvidia card that has 1100 stream processors. I understand what they are saying, more is better for graphics. But... maybe they should have used number that corresponds to a nvidia graphics card, like the gtx280 (has 240 stream processors) or the 9800GX2(has 256 stream processors). Going with a number like 1100 makes me think "ATI" (their 4780X2 has 1600stream processors).

    Just an observation.
