Calling the i-Mate Ultimate 9502 a PDA is like calling Rolex a watch

Summary:   Here at CTIA I’ve just seen a demo of the i-Mate Ultimate 9502, a forthcoming (think by end of this year) high-end Windows Mobile-powered device. Here at CTIA I’ve just seen a demo of the i-Mate Ultimate 9502, a forthcoming (think by end of this year) high-end Windows Mobile-powered device.

Looks like a PDA but that’s like saying that the Rolex tells time.

Just a few specs:

  • NTSC (analog tv specifications) video out direct to plasma TV or projector;
  • 2.8 backlit, 65K color touchscreen;
  • WiFI 802.11 g/b;
  • Tri-band 3G WCDMA/HSDPA/USDPA;
  • Class 2 stereo Bluetooth;
  • Outlook, Word, Excel and PowerPoint Mobile
  • VGA camera with video calling;
  • 3.0 MP camera (and by comparison, iPhone only has 2.0 MP)
  • Fully integrated GPS for mapping and directions.

The Ultimate 9502 won’t be cheap.  Not even a little.

No formal pricing structure has been announced, but I heard the figure $1700 from one set of somewhat linked-in loose lips.
