  • WOW! AAC support!

AAC is what the Microsoft bloggers, namely Paul Thurrott, have been saying is the evil
format because Apple has been alone in using it. Several Microsoft bloggers have
inaccurately characterized AAC as an Apple proprietary format and have moronically
said that AAC, the successor to MP3, is inferior to MP3.

And now Microsoft is supporting AAC too. Can't wait to see how Thurrott spins this
    one.

  • Hold on a sec.

So the new feature of wireless syncing is practically useless as you have to plug the Zune into the computer to recharge it anyway (unless you pay more for a power cable). Sounds a bit superfluous to me. Also the specs mention the battery is built-in. Does that mean not user replaceable? If so, that would be terrible. I mean a product with that limitation would never sell, would it?

On the positive side, I think the ability of wireless syncing to another Zune has merit, although MS's 3 play licensing cripples it. It is something that Apple could copy from Redmond. As it is, I believe (correct me if wrong) you can share songs bought from iTunes with 5 other computers. Extend this to the iPod with wireless function and you do have a killer product. You could imagine Starbucks on a busy afternoon with people syncing all over place. I can here the pick-up lines now "Do you sync on first date?" "I'll sync yours if you sync mine." You get the picture.

As for the poor Zune owner, at this stage, well they would have to travel the streets with a loud hailer just to find another Zune.

Also, time for MS to come to the party (now they that they support AAC) and allow Windows media files free for all to use. Mind you, think of all the Zune owners that can now access iTunes if they so wish. Although, the iTunes AAC files are probably protected so they can't play on a Zune. If they can though, it will make an interesting quandary for the record companies if Zune takes off.
