Facebook settlement dumber than originally thought

Summary: The $10 million Facebook "sponsored stories" settlement is actually a $10 million settlement plus $10 million in legal fees. And I wonder why people hate lawyers.

On Monday, I noted that:

Over the weekend, Facebook quietly agreed to a $10 million settlement in a privacy lawsuit. The money is to go to charity, according to Reuters

I added:

though I have to wonder how much is going to the lawyers.

Now we have our answer. According to today's New York Times article fleshing out the details of the settlement:

The company also agreed to pay $10 million in plaintiffs’ legal fees.

So a $10 million settlement plus $10 million in legal fees. And I wonder why people hate lawyers.

If there is any question left in anybody's mind that the "sponsored stories" lawsuit was ridiculous, please let me know.
