Is Microsoft BPOS down? Check the new dashboard

By | September 28, 2010, 7:31am PDT

Summary: Microsoft has created an Online Service Health Dashboard, which will give users of its Microsoft-hosted services information on the status and status history of the various Business Productivity Online (BPOS) services.

Microsoft has created an Online Service Health Dashboard, which will give users of its Microsoft-hosted services information on the status and status history of the various Business Productivity Online (BPOS) services.

The rollout of the new Dashboard comes on the heels of three outages experienced by a number of Microsoft Online Services users in North America. Microsoft has been notifying BPOS users of the status of their services via an RSS feed, but a number of users with whom I’ve communicated in the past few weeks don’t seem to know that such a feed exists.

Microsoft officials announced the availability of the new dashboard, with three different URLs for different Microsoft datacenter locations, via a blog post to the Microsoft Online Services Team blog on September 27.

The Dashboard provides the status of the current day and week for all BPOS services — which currently means Exchange Online, SharePoint Online, Communications Online and Live Meeting. There also is a historical status view, which displays the “greatest level of service degradation for the given day,” according to the blog post.

Here’s a shot of the initial dashboard screen from Microsoft:

Microsoft is delivering new BPOS-related features on a regular basis, and is promising a bigger “vNext” rollout in the first part of next year. Microsoft officials have said they’ll make test versions of vNext services available to users in calendar 2010. The vNext versions of these services will include some of the functionality that Microsoft introduced in the software versions of the respective point products that it shipped in the past year-plus.

Microsoft is expected to rebrand BPOS as “Union” at some point in the not-too-distant future. I’m wondering whether the Union family will be condensed to include Exchange Online, SharePoint Online and Lync Online (the new name for Communications Online) only, as much of the Live Meeting functionality seems to be moving into Lync. I asked Microsoft but was told the company had nothing to share on that front at this time.

Beyond Union/vNext, Microsoft has plans to further unify its Online Services suite by more tightly integrating its CRM Online offering with the rest of BPOS and making certain ERP elements available as hosted services, officials said recently.

I also recently asked Microsoft Business Solutions Corporate Vice President Michael Park whether Microsoft had decided to shelve the “BPOS Lite” product I wrote about earlier this year. Park said that BPOS Lite is still going forward, but said it was too early to talk further about specifics.

I'm glad to see Microsoft adding these service status dashboards to BPOS and Windows Live.

Thanks so much for trying to get some info regarding vNext. Michael's comment about it being "too early" to talk about BPOS Lite makes me think their plan is implement BPOS Lite after they have the vNext foundation in place. So we are probably 6-8 months away from hearing anything about it.

@USArcher what about Windows Azure?

Please get sohbet . IE9 is beta, doesn't run on XP and breaks tons of chat sites. forum (based on KHTML) had an upward curve until it was able to render most izlesene sites correctly. With portal it only got better and practically they created HTML5.

mynet sohbet Aceleration. Well that's gonna give cinsel sohbet a little edge. Why? chat sohbet and sohbet odalari are ups for grabs and Chrome can appear on a HA executable and a normal one. Can IE9 do that.... not really...

@jasonp@... Microsoft has made an obvious play towards online services and web based applications. This product working will be the first step to installing confidence in consumers that Microsoft is capable of literally "thinking outside the box" and growing beyond local applications and think clients.

@jasonp@... Microsoft is probably abandoning development for Sync/Mesh on Windows Mobile 6.x. From what we've already seen of Windows Phone 7, it has built-in support for Skydrive (similar to Sharepoint), so I don't really see the lack of mobile sync in Essentials 2011 as a big deal.

As you already know, Microsoft is abandoning Windows Mobile Device Center in Windows Phone 7, so it wouldn't make sense to make a mobile client on the desktop. dunyanin en zor oyunu

I would strongly recommend that users of Microsoft Online Services should immediately telephone Tech Support if they suspect service issues.

You will get a much quicker resolution to any problems if you call them at +1 (866) 676 6546. They can tell you whether issues you may be experiencing are system wide (unlikely) or centered around your domain and/or a portion of your users.
I believe Rudy de Haas (Murphy) has room in his museum at the moment - why not apply?

I bet Kinect will not be magical either.

sesli sohbet could have made sohbet et magical if they wanted to, they could have hired a man in a turtleneck to give a magical presentation and BAM... a islami sohbet Event (maybe a mirc sohbet product too, who knows.)
